Is it really a surprise? He was about to get run out of Tallahassee before A&M bailed him out. He ran that program into the ground.

I was around Jimbo a few times for drinks and golf when he was at LSU. From my experience circa 2002-03, he was a genuinely good guy who wasn't trying to Superstar anyone. He was engaging and well versed talking about the shite 30 somethings talk about, and definitely not someone you would consider dumb. I wouldn't pretend to assume he is that same guy today, but I can not imagine him being some conceited and controlling bully either.

Jimbo always has a personal issue going on, the main one is that he is a shitty coach. About half of his program will transfer out in the off-season!

I wouldn't pretend to assume he is that same guy today, but I can not imagine him being some conceited and controlling bully either.
It takes a conceited man to cash a $10 million dollar a year check. Seriously. Normal people ... as defined as you or more ... would wonder "what is the catch".
Somewhere between when you met Jimbo, and now, ego had to creep in. Because, again, humble people look at Ten Million a year and think, just like the Roman Generals riding through on parade, with a slave whispering in their ear ... "All fame is fleeting".

Nope. Any fool who can sign his name can CASH a $10 Million check. But only a few people/entities are able to write that check.

Sounds good, right ? Especially when somebody offers you $10 million a year for eight years, or whatever ?
What happens after Year One ? When you're hooked to the money and the money is hooked to you ? Ask Jimbo. Ask A&M.
That's the thing. And it is a thing. For all but the most sociopathic ... those heavy contracts carry a heavy weight.
