In October of 1887, after a committee of three, composed of a representative of the sophomore, junior and senior class, was appointed to present solid and combination colors to the student body.
To the relief of many (I'm sure), the colors were changed to Navy & White in 1890.

They say it’s Navy but that blue is the closest thing to black I have seen. Especially when the jerseys get wet.
