Allen

Alabama senior Jonathan Allen was announced on Wednesday as the recipient of the 15th edition of the award, which honors the top defensive end in college football.

Allen received more than 50 percent of the final votes tallied by the Hendricks Selection Committee. Utah's Hunter Dimick finished second with more than 25 percent of the votes. The remaining votes were shared by Barnett, Boston College's Harold Landry, Pittsburgh's Ejuan Price and Florida State's DeMarcus Walker.

Allen added to his award total, having won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy given to the nation's top defensive player on Monday. He is the first Alabama player and third SEC player to win the Hendricks Award.

Allen has 56 tackles and nine sacks this season for the top-ranked Crimson Tide. He had four tackles and 1 1/2 sacks last Saturday as Alabama defeated Florida 54-16 to win its third straight SEC title.

How much money did Allen make by coming back for this senior year?

Would he have been a first rounder last year? Can't remember what the thought was on that.

Nah, we're smart enough to understand the positional awards. We can give credit where credit is due. Allen is a beast for sure.

How in the hell did Saban get Allen, Foster, Williams and Jackson to all come back for their senior year is beyond me. Great job though!

None of our defenders went in the first round last year. Hard to believe.

Believe he got a mid second round grade. He made a lot of money by coming back.

Was surprising but not completely. Last year crop of top Alabama defenders excelled as run stoppers (Robinson, Reed, Ragland). This year's crop excel in the passing game and have more top end athleticism (Allen, Williams, Foster). NFL values the latter much more than the former.

Here's the official release from the Ted Hendricks site.....

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 7 DEC 2016

CHICAGO, IL – The Ted Hendricks Foundation is pleased to present Alabama’s Jonathan Allen as its recipient of the 15th edition of the Ted Hendricks Award, which honors the top defensive end in college football. The six finalists listed on this year’s ballot represent the best in today’s student-athlete and Ted is proud to have all of these men associated with his namesake award. Each Finalist received votes, as is the norm in the ultimate round of voting. When it came time to count the ballots, however, there was a clear-cut winner.

Jonathan Allen, a senior for the Crimson Tide, received over 50% of the final votes tallied from the Hendricks Selection Committee. Utah’s Hunter Dimick, an Academic All-America honoree and the Pac-12’s sacks leader, finished a strong second with more than 25%. The remaining votes were shared by Tennessee’s Derek Barnett, BC’s Harold Landry, Pittsburgh’s Ejuan Price and Florida State’s DeMarcus Walker.

Allen’s achievements this season include:
? First Team All-SEC (Coaches)
? Bronko Nagurski Trophy Winner (Nation’s Top Defensive Player)
? Finalist for the Walter Camp Award (Player of the Year)
? Finalist for the Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year)
? Finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy (Defensive Best in Character & Performance)

He is the first Alabama player and third SEC player to win the Ted Hendricks Award. Georgia’s David Pollack was a two-time winner (2003 & 2004) and South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney took the trophy home in 2012.

We lose about 2 Jr's every year to the 1st round.

We've had several players that got 2nd or 3rd round grades their Jr years but they came back and went in the 1st round the next year. Big difference in the money.

Saban does a decent job of retention.
