Peyton Manning should have won it... he got royally screwed.

Danny Wuerffel says “hi”

He has a street named after him in Destin.
That has nothing to do with anything, just an interesting fact.

But Wuerffel didn't "screw" Peyton... Peyton didn't even make the podium that year. He was what.... 7th in voting?

But Desmond returned a punt

Am I crazy for thinking that Desmond wasn’t even the 2nd best player that year? Randy Moss had over 1600 yards and 25 TDs. For comparison Harrison junior has 1200 yards and 14 TDs

ETA: definitely meant Woodson, not Desmond

It was different in the previous century. Things have changed the last 20 years but in back in the AP poll era there was a certainly an anti Southern Bias.

Southern Bias was very real back in the day

The national media worked their asses off to try and win the trophy for Ed Marinaro in 1971. It didn't work, though. There was a huge media build up, with the winner announced on national television at halftime of the Georgia-Georgia Tech game on Thanksgiving Night. I still remember the look of disbelief on the announcer's face as he read a name other than Ed Marinaro.

I think you mean Charles Woodson. Desmond Howard won it in ‘91

On a side regardless of who should’ve won it that was probably the most talented Heisman finalist trio ever. All of the three of them were slam dunk Pro Football HOF inductees

I just got an email about a new 30 for 30 documentary on the Manning/Woodson heisman race. You know, losses don't really bother me. If you lose, you lose. But Manning getting robbed of the Heisman still pisses me off. I had a class with Peyton at the time and had a conversation with him the Monday after this happened. He was a lot classier about it than I was.
