Between Bear Bryant and Nick Saban, Alabama had one decent coach, Gene Stallings. And he won a national championship. Outside of that it was a revolving door of average to below average coaches and NCAA sanctions designed to cripple the program for years. Despite that, even those meh coaches would win 10+ games on occasion and would be narionally relevant. The 80s and first half of the 2000s were pretty dark days. But there were still a lot of 10-13 win seasons in there. Even during this darkest of dark days, there was never more than 3 years between 10 win seasons. I think as long is it is not completely mismanaged Alabama will be ok. They won’t be Saban good, but they will be fine. Look at how LSU has managed to maintain the program he built, even with the grass eater and the shrimp boat captain.
