i have heard that said multiple times fwiw but i don't see a guy with an ego like Mullen sitting around saying "well, XYZ is offering me a lot of money, a big recruiting base, great facilities and etc.but golly-gee, it sure is easy over here. Who needs a national title and glory when I have a cushy job, not making as much." Not to sound like a total dick but I think that most coaches ego doesn't let that happen. Grass is always greener.
It's not ALWAYS greener. JoePa was offered NFL jobs and turned them down. I'm sure Beamer at Virginia Tech has been offered 'bigger' jobs, but he's stayed (and not won an NC).
Urban Meyer won a NC at UF but now he's out of a job. Replaced by a coordinator from a big school. Same level as from where MSU got our coach, BTW.
Whose job is better to have? Beamer's or Meyer's?
Fulmer at Tennessee won a National Championship and had several 10 and 11-win seasons, and still got fired. Two years later, Tennessee is hiring the coach from Louisiana Tech.
Auburn fired Tuberville and replaced him with a head coach that had gone 5-19 at one of the worst BCS programs.
Bama, Arkansas, and South Carolina got their coaches from the NFL.
Richt also has several 10 or 11-win seasons and if he STILL gets fired, then that job may not be desirable by every coach.
So NONE of the better SEC coaches were hot head coaches stolen from a BCS school.
And like UT and Auburn, Georgia may have to go a lot 'lower' than they think to get another coach. Don't just assume that you can steal Mullen (or some other hot head coach) just because you want to.

Are you insuating that Urban Meyer was fired? Dude left last time i checked.

Joe Pa was offered these jobs 20 years ago

Va Tech is way bigger than MSU and a national title contender. different resources. I would have VT closer to the big boys

Fulmer has done more than any coach who just sat back and said "well screw titles, i still have a cushy, easy job" not to mention many Tennessee fans admit that although he hurt them in the end they do not regret hiring fulmer. the Dooley fiasco was their own doing, not because it is a big program and no one wanted to go. no one wanted to go because they shot themselves in the foot. i don't see UGA hiring a lane kiffin to frick us over.

yea, idk what to say about that

yea, but your forgetting all 3 were actually successful college coaches and reached BCS bowls at Louisville, LSU, and Florida

idc if i get shite for this but richt did himself in an raised the standards and most coaches can see how richt has done less with more for 10 years and now he has lost his edge. 6-7 doesn't fly at a school like Georgia, especially following 8-5. any coach going to a big time gig knows you can't do that

wrong bucko. just because it wasn't directly from these schools i already said former LSU, Louisville, and UF coaches. Iowa State is a BCS school because it is still a member of the big 12.

stealing would be getting gary patterson. i don't see UGA having too many issues getting Mullen or Strong. Could they say no, absolutely. But UGA offers them something that neither of their own schools can and UGA is a premier job whether you like it or not

I agree UGA is a top job. And yes, Spurrier, Petrino, and Saban had previously proven themselves to be good college coaches. But they DID get hired from the NFL and were not hired away from a hot BCS school.
Earlier, I was wrong when I wrote that none of the better SEC schools got a hot BCS head coach--LSU did when they got Miles from Oklahoma State.
However, Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan (after Rich Rod), Ohio State, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas A&M, and Florida State, did not.

Mullen is not leaving State unless he gets a top 10-15 job.
Georgia and Oregon will be tempting, but who's to say he will be their top candidate? Obviously he will be considered, but ya never know.
One thing is obvious from this thread- the other SEC schools dont like him being at State, because it's now a much tougher game on their schedule every year.

a lot of schools have been going after hot coordinators but it is still not out of the realm of possibilities to see Georgia hire a Charlie Strong or Dan Mullen. i think it is harder to see Mullen staying at MSU than going elsewhere, even if it isn't Georgia.
now, i do think that seeing a coach like Gary Patterson come here would be a long shot but it isn't completely impossible

Mullen is a bad recruiter. You don't want him anyway.

UGA fans all look to McGarity being the former asst AD at UF and some UGA insiders, not knowing how dependable they are, say he is the #1 target. one guy, not knowing again if its true but he usually is reliable, said UGA put feelers out on Mullen to see how much it would be to coax him out of MSU. it was right around them time they gave him an extension i think. or close to the bowl games.
regardless Mullen is in the top 3 if richt ever gets fired which i mean we'll see if that ever happens

everyone says that but i still think he can be fine if we surround him with a good enough staff

Would Dan Merlins take the Clemson job it if became available?
A lot of the Clemson faithful are becoming a little restless with Dabo's performance. His 2011 recruiting class probably bought him a pass until 2012 or 2013, unless his on-the-field results drop severely.

Apparently you have to do the same in Starkville.
Dan Mullen's tenure hasn't been "clean", with the Cam Newton saga and all.
We all know about the Jackie Sherrill tenure.

If we are cheating, we are doing it wrong.
