The word "undefeated" is kind of self validating, don't you think?

Only when that word comes after about 14 games or so.

In your case, fleeting. It's obvious that this atmospheric pressure is not something you are accustomed to.

TBD.
The LSU defense has looked pretty good thus far, but you're also just now getting to the meat of your schedule. To date, you've not faced a single offense currently in the NCAA top 50 for total offense.
Thus far ( Total Offense Rank)
Mississippi State (52)
Auburn (97)
Syracuse (110)
Eastern Michigan (63)
South Carolina (98)
Florida (86)
But that's about to change
Upcoming
Western Kentucky (9)
Alabama (47)
Arkansas (45)
Ole Miss (11)
Texas A&M (31)
If at the end of that run, the LSU defense is still performing at the same level then yes, it was a very good hire.

It was so refreshing not giving up a touchdown on the final two drives of the Florida game.
Treon Harris really knows how to drive the football down field with his arm in key moments of games. Great accomplishment stopping him.

Too bad Bama can't even say it after 7 games.

Kevin Steele is the worst DC in football.
LSU players are playing from memory of Chavis.

Steele has doe a much better job than I expected, especially given the poor job his predecessor did.

Kiffen was the only guy Saban could find and vice versa. If two aholes ever needed each other, it was these two but they still cant get along. LOL. Seems to be another change at OC looming in Gumpville.
A&M got an inside look at the LSU program with the Chavis hire. Miles is getting an inside look at the Gumps, Steele can recruit with the best of them and is good friends with Chavis. This was an easy transition and a good fit.
Saban's was a thank goodness SC fired Kiffen, he needs a job and i can talk him into standing on the sidelines with my control freak self.
Who is in the Alabama box these days?

It's still way too early to evaluate the hire.
The secondary has been an issue at times, but it seems to mostly be breakdowns when switching to zone coverage. That can be caused by the new terminology and checks not being completely grasped by the players yet. I'm holding out hope that is the issue.
The linebackers have been better than they ever were under Chavis. That is just a fact and I expect it to continue to improve under Steele, seeing as he's a LB guy.
The defensive line has been leaps and bounds better than it has since 2011, and that's with limited depth. Steele and Orgeron have done a great job there.
Overall, the scheme is VERY similar to Chavis' with a few wrinkles. Steele gets more creative with blitzes and mixes in more zone coverage. Hopefully with more time in the system the secondary can clean up the breakdowns and the Dline and LBs will continue to improve.

I will say under Steele the defense is actually able to make key stops when they need to.

THIS. Anybody who's been watching the last 7 seasons (Chavis arrived in 09) of LSU football closely knows this to be true. If the secondary mistakes are shored up it's going to be a lethal unit for the foreseeable future.

I don't need validation, I like the results on the field so far for the most part.

I'm just glad he isn't our LB coach anymore.

Yes, you should have waited until the end of the season to draw conclusions/parallels - or at least until LSU has faced some stronger offensive teams - or at least until Monday, after LSU plays the 3rd rated passing offense in NCAA.

You do realize you got a lot of tough games left right
All Steele has to do is give up the game winner to Bama not hard to do lol
