I see what you're saying. Spurrier has done a pretty good job at South Carolina, but he hasn't done anything noteworthy there. The program was not shite when he arrived there. They were mediocre at the worst, and he's been there for 7/8 years, and hasn't won any championship or major bowl game. Why he is among the best when it took Saban only 3 years at LSU to turn a 3-8 program into a national title program? It took effing gene chizik two years to turn a 5-7 auburn team into a national title winning team. He's good, but i don't think he's among the best. In my opinion, he's currently about equal with Dan Mullen.

Thats some of the dumbazz thi9ngs Ive read on this board...please use protection and dont spread your incredible DNA.

If you knew ANYTHING about the history of SEC football for the past 50 yrs...then you might understand what Spurrier has done. He won a Heisman in 1966 when UF was not a powerhouse program....we were in NCAA jail in 1984-86 with severe sanctions not seen since in our conference. The late eighties saw us with Emmitt Smith right left and up the middle and we lost everytime we play a defense that could stack up eight or nine guys on the line daring us to throw. We couldnt hit the broadside of a barn at 15 paces....when Spurrier arrived in 1990 he took a fourth string soph qb with no experience and made him into an ALL SEC QB...he devised offenses that left def coaches up all night trying to stop him to no avail. We were denied the official SEC title because of a supposed NCAA rules violation that was never proven when Galen Hall was coach, or your could add another title to his mantle. His first year opener was against Okla State which preseason top ten team and we spanked them 50-7...he beat Bama in Tuscaloosa...etc etc. He would go to coach another Heisman winner at UF, he owned LSU ands that rubs some tigertail raw I guess...oh well. He went TO USC which has been a doormat type team for years and years...if you knew 50 yrs of college football history. I can name some players from LSUs 1963-65 by memory btw.

LOL IDIOT. I wasn't talking about Florida. I was talking about South Carolina. Yes, he was successful at Florida. But gosh, it seems like he should be a national title contender with 7-8 years of a South carolina program who doesnt have history. They have potential!

It could also be said that Lou Holtz laid the groundwork for Spurrier at South Carolina.

It could also be said that Pell and Hall and what was his name, Gary Darnell, laid the foundation for Spurrier at Florida.

But really?

The past two years we've been one game out of the SECCG, which is a play-in game for the national title.

Anyone that thinks Spurrier isn't a top 5 coach nationally doesn't understand the work he had to do here at USC. Our fans applauded a home loss to 2nd ranked Auburn in '06 for God's sake.

This is why your team will always let you down and never "get there."

Saban and Meyer overall. But on gameday I'd take Spurrier every time. Has the knack for calling the right play at the right time, but execution has been an issue at USC- especially in his first 4 years before the talent started to come in.

Yeah because we totally still do that. And fans applauding AFTER a game really affects a team's performance.

We were a different program then. We haven't escaped that stigma yet, but we're moving in the right direction. We're "getting there" moreso than any other "usually shite" team in the SEC.

False.
Spurrier has really changed the culture around USC. That shite will never happen again.

Agreed. Spurrier was 2-0 against a Tebow-less Meyer, but he did win two National titles in three years and went undefeated in his first year at Ohio State. Plus hes a helluva recruiter

Yeah, I don't think he gets enough flack for leaving the cupboard dry when he left Florida. And he was dishonest with recruiting.

Plus he tucked his tail and ran from the competition in the SEC.

All coaches are guilty of this to an extent, to be fair.

He crossed the line when he started telling recruits that God came to him in his dreams.
