Yes, promoting from within can be a great thing, it all depends on promoting the right person. Do you not think that if Miami would have promoted Skip Bertman to replace Ron Fraser it wouldn't have worked out well? You just have to make sure you aren't promoting from within just to keep the team together, or a recruiting class together, which is normally what happens.
