Is it too late for Alabama to establish some semblance of a running game?

For the Crimson Tide, the consequences of a one-dimensional offense have now been realized courtesy of the Oklahoma Sooners' superior defense. Of course, that revelation has been discussed thoroughly on these pages. My question is whether a running scheme can still be developed in time for the Iron Bowl? An Auburn victory pretty well seals the fate. Bama will not be in the CFP. If the Tide can't win at Auburn, the prospect of advancing past even the first round is tentative at best if DeBoer and Grubb continue to snub the run. Ty Simpson's brilliance in the September-October gauntlet led to a false illusion that the running game is not very important. I have never understood, though, the neglect that DeBoer and Grubb imposed on the run. West Coast, I guess. In the SEC, a powerful run attack is essential. Kirby Smart gave a lesson on that in the dominant fourth quarter with Texas. Might it occur to Grubb to practice this a bit against Eastern Illinois? Daniel Hill has shown great potential, and if the offensive line can get a bit of tutoring, then Bama might have a good chance in the playoffs. As is, the secondary pulls back and effectively defends the pass, and Ty is running for his life with a relentless rush from a stacked offensive line and edge defenders. (Ty does need to work on ball security and needs to be aware of strip sacks). Your thoughts: Is there time?

I just looked it up and Bama rushed for 80 yards as a team yesterday. Hill had 15 att for 60 yards. Miller had 9 att for 20 something yards. Brooks had a carry for something like 2 yards. Simpson had 8 attempts for -9 yards.

That is miles better than the last couple of games.

Good point. Hopefully Grubb has to understand that the run is essential to free up Ty and allow the excellent receiving corps to run their routes.

Something happened to my post in the submission process. Beats me. The lengthy one is the right one.

They ask way too much out of Ty. I know the running game has struggled this year but if they find it being effective during a game though then use it. Stop asking Ty and the receivers to be the offense every week if they do not have to be the offense.

Bama lost the game yesterday due to turnovers and special teams. Play calling had a lot to do with it too. If they were gonna throw it then the matchup they had all game was the tight end. I can’t remember if he even got a look on that last drive.

Hill needs 20 plus carries a game. He should be the featured back. Jam Miller has no vision or burst.

That's always been the DeBoer/Grubb MO.

They've never ran the ball much, the offense is as good as the quarterback plays.

Asking Tom Brady to drop back and pass 40+ times in a game would be to much. Asking a guy in college to do it is way too much I don’t care how good the guy is. Plus it’s not just about Ty. You are asking a pitiful offensive line to keep Ty clean 40+ snaps. Even the best offensive lines would have trouble with that in today’s game because every team has players now. It’s unreasonable and unrealistic to ask a struggling o line to basically play a one dimensional game for 4qtrs.
