Chad Morris and Brent Venables are the reasons Dabo has been good. He's just a figurehead.

And for the record, despite my personal feelings about Dabo, he is head and shoulders a better coach than Gus Malzahn imo.

Muschamp and Kevin Steele saved Gus job 3 times already.

is clemsoning a thing again?
Yeah. It still is. Auburn did it twice this season. Once against Georgia and once against UCF.

Any intelligent Clemson fan will tell you the same. How quickly we forget West Virgina hung 70 on them in the Orange Bowl.
He can recruit whether it's done legally or not, but as soon as Venibles leaves its back to the early days.

I wouldn't use the word "coach" in that question. The guy is more of a mascot and recruiting figurehead.
As far as Spurrier goes, we squeezed every last little bit of success out of the old man that we could and when he ran out we kept on trying to squeeze more. So no,I don't feel bitter about how that ended. We missed on bowl games 1 year. Got a new coach and got right back on the right track.

A few thoughts on your post..Dabo hired these coaches...They didn't grow on trees. Dabo was smart enough to take less money so he could pay more to his coordinators which has kept our staff pretty stable. As for the Orange Bowl..you know who the D-Coordinator was? Kevin Steele and he got fired for that.
Dabo is definitely a CEO type of coach that expects his staff to do the job they are paid for. With that said there are many things to College Coaching the is frequently not considered and Dabo does exceptionally well:
1. He plays the politically as well as I have ever seen. He has been magnificent and the infrastructure improvements and that comes from Dabo kissing a lot of babies, shaking a lot of hands, taking a lot of photos to get those booster to write those enormous check that help built the new football complex adjacent the int indoor practice field called "Dabo World"
Not every coach can play this game at all. Bo Pellini is a good X's and O's coach but sucked at the social game and is now at Youngstown State...
2. Recruiting..Dabo is one of the best in the game. That's a fact. Again, this is something that not every coach is good at and Dabo is an expert as iss reflected in our consistent recruiting success..
So, you can call Dabo a figure head, but he is more of the total package in what successful P5 Coaches need to be than drawing up a few plays on a chalkboard.

Since he didn't make a title game appearance until after Morris left for SMU, I'd say Chad was holding him back from reaching his full potential.
I feel sorry for whomever ends up with that loser after he leaves the Mustangs.

Doesn't change the fact that he is not the one coaching his player how to do play football. He may be good at getting the players, but his assistants are the real coaches, and he is a meme, a gimmick, he comes up with the schitck to make the players want to come to Clemson. Good for him. He is good at that. One of the best. But it doesn't make hima good "coach" and he isn't.

Dabo is not even CLOSE to a coach!
Dabo was not successful until Clemson broke out the bank for the most expensive coordinators in college football, because Dabo cannot coach a lick himself. Now that they are winning, they are having to pay Dabo a fortune on top of the coordinators's salaries. Plus they have paid for major upgrades in their facilities to be successful. I will skip the topic of whether they have paid for major upgrades in their player talent also.
At Alabama, they have higher standards and they would see right through Dabo. Try to imagine Dabo trying to put a gag order on the media in Birmingham like he did with the Upstate crowd. Or stifle Pawl Finebaum. Plus, you don't want to be the guy that follows the legend - they have short-lived tenures.

WHAT!?!?!?
Chad is a great coach, and now is in the best conference in the SEC.
Dab's will be crying for him back after his other OCs leave.

Let us know when Gus gets his team to 3 consecutive CFPs, let us know when he wins a National Championship, then you can start the comparison with Dabo.
