I believe Saban set a STANDARD and it was up to the players to meet that standard if they wanted playing time. Look at some of the linebackers that were 4 and 5 stars that didn't get playing time until their junior season.
I get it. But Saban also was a master at motivating players. Saban did not set a standard and then sat back. He also had other coaches that motivated the players. Scott Cochran for one. Saban also brought in special speakers from time to time that helped motivated players. Then, a strong argument could be made that pulling players from games and putting somebody in their spot is a form of motivation.
quote:To a degree I can agree with this. But there are relatively few teams that are major NIL players. A&M, Texas, Tennessee, OSU, USC and maybe a couple more.
But NIL has changed all of that. And therefor the reason Saban said "frick it I'm out". Players are only motivated by how much and how soon. There's very little a coach can do.
But once those players get a major NIL payout, it is even more imperative for the coaches to motivate the players. Keep them from becoming complacent.
Hey, I am just giving my opinion and thoughts. We don't have to agree.

at times over the last few years Alabama didn’t exactly look like a well oiled machine.
The discipline issues have been getting worse every year. Alabama hasn't looked like Alabama since 2020.

Ha. It is LSU/Bama in Tiger Stadium. I could drink legally the first time LSU won that game in my lifetime. I will never be overconfident going into that game.
