Seems proportional to the number of returning starters, really.

amazing what happens when you dont just pick one stat to use as a starting point

But they appear to be indicative of how those defenses would perform. When you have 4 returning starters, yet still allow under 20 points per game. . .well that's just great coaching.

They usually are indicative. It doesn't seem to matter with Chavis.
I agree that it is good coaching. I mean these aren't top notch defenses he was coaching, but they were at least middle of the pack for the SEC.

I intentionally included returning starters because that stat was less influential than it usually is. Abnormally non-important.

Admit it Ole Miss is always going to be a flash in the pan now and then but soon enough they will be back to celebrating a Co-SEC West banner every 10 years. Arkansas will have more sucess over the next 4 years that Ole Miss will.

ok.
I admit it.
I never said we were going to be anything more than that.
We're not going back to what we've been the past 4 years though.

this is hilarious coming from a fan of a Houston Nutt team. Has that douche ever won a game as a favorite?

To your credit you can spot a middle of the pack SEC Defense when you see it because you see so many with Ole Miss. I thank you for pointing out that Chavis maybe giving us a middle of the road defense this year.

From 05 to 07 OM went 3-8, 4-8, & 3-9. If you honestly think this is where Nutt will take this team, than I'm speechless.

I'm assuming he means back to the Tubberville and cutcliffe years. I can deal with that.

I don't think that Nutt will be the coach after this season. Why rebuild Ole Miss when some other program is going to come calling with the big bucks. I have always stated that I think Nutt will be gone after this year when Snead and the rest of Ed's talent is gone. Ed was one hell of a recruiter, but isnt a headcoach.

'05 - Last Year of Randy Sanders
'08 - Year of Dave Clawson

I think that may clear up some of your confusion

Since 2001 they had been struggling to get kids to buy into Fulmer. This showed up on both sides of the ball. That is why the numbers have been kind of sporadic. There was a time when UT had talent on defense like USC. Right now it is more like UK with a couple stars. They have had people drafted, sure, but the talent level was extremely top heavy with little depth.

All that contributed to the numbers you mentioned.

I have been following Chavis ubiquitously for years now, hard not to when you're 45 minutes south of Knoxville.

I think you're secretly becoming an LSU fan.

I'll bet Leslie leaves LSU before Hootie leaves Ole Miss.

I actually agree with everything you're saying here.
I've got a former classmate who plays for UT. Chris Walker.
Chavis was a good hire. I just like fricking with the rantards.

Vood seriously thought that Houston Nutt was going to leave a preseason top 10 team for another offer.
What an idiot.
The only reason nutt came here is because we had enough talent for immediate success.
