Oh, sweetie that means you intimidate and threaten them. I've heard that one several times too. You don't "need" a man, and that puts egos at risk. What they don't get is that you may not need a man for any traditional reason, but you want one for other reasons.
It's frustrating as frick. I just finally decided that if they're intimidated by me, then they're not for me and not worth my time. Which doesn't solve the problem, but makes me feel a little better!
