I indirectly work for the government. Needless to say we have to fill out all these fricking formats and reports and specific documents that are retarded. I would much rather work in the private sector than do shite for our government.

Having done both, I disagree with you.
The government is rife with mediocrity and low expectations. Basically, show up to work and don't stick your neck out and you're golden.

I'm not a government employee though. My company just does government contracts. I still have to meet moderately high expectations, but I have to jump through all the retarded government loops and red tape.

Oh, I can do it when I need to. For short periods of time. And if I think it's a good cause, I'm happy to go to the black-tie fundraiser. But for the most part, all that stuff is just so fake, and I'd rather donate my time and money the way I choose to. I used to do volunteer work with a shelter for abused and neglected children. I was on the Board, and planned several fundraisers for them But on my own time, I'd go sometimes and make dinner for the kids living there. I got so much more out of being with those kids than going to a boring chicken dinner. I learned something, and felt like a better person for having made those kids happy for a while.
I finally got fed up with it and put on a poker tournament - made them $25k in one night, more than they'd ever made at a fundraiser before.

It beats the hell out of sitting at football practice for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, which is what I would be doing right now if I were still a HS athletic trainer. It's spring FB time. I don't miss that shite at all.
