Yep. I like the hours too. I hate waking up early every morning. I go to work at 4pm. And my schedule varies. I hate being forced into a routine.

So many people get caught up in their careers and live to work. That's all backwards.

I think the saddest people are those that can't separate who they are from what they do. I used to work for a guy like that - everything was tied up in his title. The club he and his wife belonged to, who they socialized with, the events the attended, the clothes he wore, it was all tied up in his title as a bank president. Then when he retired....he was completely lost. He had no idea who he was without that position and title. I promised myself I would never be that way.

What you do just supports who you are. That's my outlook anyway.

I make about 25% of what I used to make. But I work about 10% as much.

Sounds like a great trade to me.

How much money do you really need, anyway?

Exactly. I see work as the means to living the life I want to live and supporting my spending habits. I will never become my job. I'm not wired that way. I'm not the work a holic type.

Luckily I met enough people like this over the years (and learned from their mistakes and regrets) that I eventually said "frick it" and dumped corporate America.

I'll never wear another suit or kiss another arse again.

Yep, that or Jeans. I'll dress up to do a proposal on a big contract. But once it's done and I'm there work. Jeans, T-shirt, and Hat usually. Then when I'm done, they like the work and call me back. And then I don't have to worry about what I wear cause they know I do a good job.

When I worked for that guy, I was the marketing director of a bank, and I was expected to join the right organizations, support the right charities, be seen at the right places, etc. I lived that life for 5 years, and grew to hate it. I hated having lunch at the "see and be seen" places with people I really didn't like, just because it was good for the company. Or going to a fancy fundraiser of a cause I really didn't care about. Ugh. I'd rather stay out of that world.

Love me some beatles, but I need to be in a Beatles mood to listen to them. I just so happen to be in an appropriate mood.

I'm building a new found respect for people right and left tonight.

It almost feels unnatural.
