I really don't expect you to change your traditions, just for some of to be a little more humble, especially the ones acting we "needed" A&M. Sure we needed to add a team for the future to stay ahead of the game, but it didn't have to be A&M. It was the best choice, but not the only one.

Is this one of those threads where the Bama fans swear they'd rather play Tennessee than Auburn every year?

It was a mutually beneficial arrangement. A&M is trying to raise its athletic profile, and joining the SEC was the best way to do that. The SEC is trying to increase it footprint by gaining bigger TV markets (i.e., those in Texas). A&M really is a perfect fit for the SEC.

As far as humility goes, frick that. I'm proud of my school, proud of its traditions, and proud of our new conference. And if that rubs a few people the wrong way, tough shite. It's not like we were exactly buddy buddy with our former big 12(-2)(-1) mates, either.

FWIW I think it'd be hilarious if their players (especially DL) immediately started playing faster and more physical.

Errrr.....not that I really care one way or another, but those numbers by USNWR are wrong.

It's 52% women, 48% men, from the horse's mouth.

it can be... b/c I am one of those guys

UT and Bama built the SEC, 2 winningest programs of all time in the conference, and have played each other twice as long as Bama and Aub

besides, the Bahr would have picked UT over Aub any day of the week. There are probably plenty of Auburn fans who if they had to choose between Bama & UGA, would go with the Bulldogs. You realize there are still fans out there who didn't just jump on the bandwagon in the last decade

Personally I'm just hoping we dont have to give up either game

I can't read that because I'm on my phone, but I'll assume it's correct. I guess US News is a little behind.

Plenty of women at A&M--I thought this was common knowledge.

I agree with this. A&M made the most sense, but there are other choices. You have to forgive some of the others. They come off sounding arrogant and bitchy. It's love of school and the Aggie family. We're a pretty tight group. (cue: picture of corps dudes anus to penis...yes...we know...they embarrass us sometimes). So, it's kinda like talkin' 'bout somebody mama...if you know what I mean. Some haven't learned to to lighten up yet.

No, personally I'd rather lose Tennessee. But I really don't wanna lose either game. And no matter what these folks tell you, unless Bama goes to the east, we are going to lose one or both.

Wow, there are some drama queens on both sides in this thread and mainly for no reason.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to save most of the rivalries in the SEC. Simply move Auburn to the East and have Bama as their permanent rival. The preserves AU/GA as well. As for UA/UT, simply make sure it is scheduled for next season as a rotating game. Then in 2013 when the SEC almost certainly adds another school you switch back. Was that really so hard? Will every game be able to happen next year that every school may want? No, but the most important ones can easily be preserved.

Aggies are diving in to SEC tradition. We aren't expecting anyone to adapt to us but we do expect to be treated as equals and with fairness. There is some adjustment on both sides and that's fine. I know half the smack about A&M is just for fun and that's all good, we can smack talk with anyone. Aggies are naturally a bit untrustworthy of other folks in our conference though because that is how we have been raised. The SWC and Big 12 were filled with unhealthy relationships and hatred and there was no trust. That was a huge reason for A&M wanting to come to the SEC but it is going to take a while to adjust to, Aggies are used to having to sleep with a gun under our pillow.

BTW, what does A&M bring to the SEC? Here's a few things:

A 42% increase in the footprint of the SEC. That means greater national interest and a lot more money for everyone. Estimates are the SEC TV deal for Tier 1 and 2 rights should increase by as much as $8 million PER SCHOOL by adding A&M. That's serious jack. It benefits the fans because more money means better facilities and product as well as even more exposure.

A&M is competitive to dominant in every sport it participates in. A&M has 8 NC's in the last 3 years and is currently ranked or at least receiving votes in all 20 sports it participates in. It has also been in the Top 10 in the Sears Cup the last 2 years. A&M has been to 6 straight NCAA tourneys in MBB, is defending NC in WBB, and went to the College WS in baseball last year to go with a trophy case full of B12 Titles. A&M also just completed the "Triple Double" of 3 straight M&W Track and Field NC's which has never been done before. Adding A&M allows the SEC to argue they are the best overall athletic conference and not just in football and a couple other sports.

AAU membership. By adding a 3rd AAU school A&M can help to team with Vandy and UF to try to get other SEC schools in the AAU, most likely UGA and UA. AAU membership equates to tens of millions of dollars in research to a school which means more jobs and more prestige. It's not all about athletics.

A&M will have the largest student body in the SEC, barely ahead of Florida. We have 360k living alumni and according to the NYTimes over 2 million fans which is good for 6th overall in the US. We have a ton of money and a lot more we can tap into as we move to the SEC.

A&M does have a lot of traditions, some will love them and some hate them but at least we have personality. Aggies are a passionate group and we add a lot of flavor. Almost all of our traditions are based in our roots as a military school and as a Land Grant school both of which fit with the SEC. For instance some will appreciate that A&M built a special scoreboard and speaker for our dead mascots when they renovated Kyle and it blocked the view of the graves to the scoreboard and some will think we are freaking insane. Some think Midnight Yell is pretty awesome that we can get 30-40k people to come out the night before the game just to practice our yells and some will think we are morons. If you haven't seen the Aggie Band you are missing the best halftime display in college football. It's all good, at least we aren't generic U.

We also do have football tradition, though it's been a rough decade. From '85-'95 A&M was as dominant force winning 6 Conference Titles (7 if your count the '94 season when we were undefeated but ineligible). We stuffed Bo Jackson in his last game at the Cotton Bowl and we owned LSU to the point they stopped playing us. We have a NC and using Bama rules we have 3 others (in '17 and '19 we even went unbeaten, untied, and unscored upon). We are Top 20 in wins and we have a Heisman trophy winner. We also have work to do to get back to where we need to be, especially in the SEC but we have the ability to do so.

No Aggie should expect that other SEC schools are wowed by us or that they owe us anything. We are the new kids in town and we have to prove we belong. Certainly we shouldn't expect everyone to like us. We do bring our share to the table though and we will make the SEC a better conference, we also are ready to compete.

I am one of those guys, but that's because I've always lived in Georgia and not Alabama. But I know the Iron Bowl is bigger than my personal preference for UGA.

We are going to add a team from the west (most likely missouri), no credible team from the east is available that we want and wants us.

So Auburn goes to the east, and stays there unless we add two more from the east later.

This means Bama has to play 6 divisional games.

LSU, Ole Miss, A&M, Miss State, Arkansas, and (Missouri). Leaving us with two cross divisional games.

We aren't going to get to keep both UT and Auburn as a permanent game like they have been for over 60 years.

And I doubt they even let us keep one, because if they do, it would be either 12 years before we played a particular team in the east if we do a home and home, or 6 years before you got to play them, and 12 years before you got them at home again.

Only way we keep them both is if Bama goes to the East(which makes since by sending Vandy to the west to me) or possibly by going to 9 conference games.
