If we didn’t try to change our entire defensive scheme with one week to prepare before the SEC title game we would have been National Champions anyway

I'm pretty confident that even if A&M remains in the Big 12 and runs the table in 2012, we're the ones left out of the national championship game to Alabama and Notre Dame.
Two things to remember (assuming all other wins/losses remain the same and the Big 12 doesn't recruit TCU and WV due to Mizou and A&M leaving).. this was still the BCS era where a combination of computer rankings and polls were evenly split to decide the BCS rankings. A&M would have run the table but with K-State and Oklahoma being the top ranked teams they would have 1 additional loss each as neither team lost to newcomers TCU/West Virgina that season. This gives A&M's resume top win's over 10-2 K-State and 9-3 OU.
Our non-conference game of note would have been Arkansas (coached by John L. Smith). We would not have competed in a conference championship game but rather crowned Big 12 champions after the final week of the regular season (due to the fact that the Big 12 did not yet have a set conference championship game for a 10 team league).
Given the credentials above, does anyone here really think A&M edges out an undefeated Alabama or Undefeated Notre Dame? The computer rankings may give us some sympathy but the polls would have been pretty clear.
