I must have been right. And I'm sorry but I don't care what insults you throw at LSU because I know they will always be better than Ole Miss

Followed all this craziness for a couple weeks and then decided to jump in the fun. I think I'll hold my own. And to OP, I'm glad we took Ross from W. Kentucky.

I'll answer the question.
I say look at South Carolina as sort of a guide. Prior to Holtz/Spurrier USCe wasnt that great of a program. With the right coach and recruiting they built a program.
South Carolina has a little over 4 million people in the state. Mississippi has a little under 3 million.
South Carolina has two major colleges that do fairly well in football.
So to answer your question thats probably the best model for us to follow. The goal should be to get to a point where we are consistently winning 8 to 9 games a year.

If Ole Miss lands Chewbacca, that changes everything.
Maybe then Lucas would let y'all use Admiral Akbar as a mascot.

I guess you have to beat Auburn first because they swear they are going to dominate with all their recruiters.....er..... coaches.

Ole Miss has plenty of talent, if we get some more experience and fix some issues in our secondary I would imagine it could take around 3-4 years into Coach Freeze's tenure to really start seeing some close games against Alabama etc.
We already play LSU close pretty much every other year, so they are always a toss up in my mind at least since I have been attending Ole Miss. A&M we lost by 3, never know about next year they will be tough to beat for sure. The rest of our schedule is winnable, just depends on how prepared our guys are, how much experience they have and how much effort they have put into their workouts etc.
Don't believe all the haters that say Ole Miss will never get there. We have gotten rid of the Good Ole Boy network, and have a coach who gets players pumped, and players who care about getting Ole Miss back to relevancy.
It was just 2003 when we were battling LSU for first place in the West. Even in 2008 when we had a ton of 3 stars and not very many 4 or 5's, we upset the #1 team in the nation, and killed Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl. That was the same year we destroyed LSU at their place, and came back to almost defeat Bama 20-24. That was with Snead as QB, so anything can happen. I think the future is very bright for our program, it's not gonna happen this upcoming year and it's going to be hard as hell, but it's doable.

This is how I've looked at it as well. We need to be able to match USCe's "football budget". Everyone gets caught up with the entire athletic budget when all we are looking at is football. Our FTR campaign is suppose to put us up close to SC's budget. Until we get there our goal needs to be stability. Win the games we should and continue to recruit lights out, then hopefully we will be where SC is in 4 years. When SC landed Lattimore and Clowney, I gave up on trying to copy them because I never saw us getting those type of players but I be damn, we are getting close
