This is a rebuilding team. Not close to the best. Our best team was last year and he lost 3 games because of HIM, not Ole Miss.
What’s the excuse for Kentucky beating the breaks off of you? Almost as if things change from week to week.

Because he really wants to coach at a blue blood—Florida especially.
But he also really wants to compete for a national championship so we’re about to find out which one he cares about more.

This thread was necessary. Y'all take the saying beating a dead horse to all new levels. No one is going to hire a coach until the regular season is over. Unless Va. Tech signs Franklin. Other than that we all just have to wait and see.

I think Eli Drinkwitz would leave Mizzou tomorrow if Florida asked him to.

Let's hope we never do. Stricklin would be harassed endlessly if he hires Drink.

He’s probably wearing Florida shirts under his hoodie so when the call comes, he can rip it open like Superman and fly away to Gainesville.

For whatever reason the fanbase here doesn't want him. IDK why, they just don't. For the record I don't either.

Im not a big Drink fan myself. But I absolutely think I’m prejudiced against the way he looks with those goofy fricking glasses rather than anything concrete.
fricker needs to learn to see to actually be an elite coach.

Making playoff raises ceilings. Remember when Georgia was 10-2 year after year and people began to say that was their ceiling? I do.

The only reason Lane might leave is because of the perception that LSU or UF is a bigger job. To stroke his ego. It won't be about money. If he's smart he will stay put. Win 9-10 games a year at Ole Miss and they'll build him a statue.

Does anyone really think this Ole Miss team is going to win the CFP?
It's a playoff. It's all about the bracket and matchups. Just shooting from the hip because things will change the next two weeks but you don't think Ole Miss could beat Notre Dame in Oxford and then beat Indiana in a bowl game ?!? They absolutely could do that. Rebs would be a TD favorite at home against the Irish and the Hoosiers would be what ?! A 3.5-6.5 point favorite in the bowl game on a neutral field. Just a bad take. Really bad.

I understand why the Gators would be all in on Kiffin and I think Kiffin would be a 100% lock if Ole Miss weren’t on their way to the playoffs right now.
If Ole Miss loses in Starkville and misses the playoffs, I’d bet big money on Lane going to Gainesville. But if Rebs make the playoffs Gators are probably gonna have to resign themselves to a bunch of really good backup options.
Drinkwitz isn’t as sexy as Lane but he’d still be the most successful coach Florida has hired since Urban.

I would bet the field against every team. But there’s not one team in the country that I don’t think we can beat on a neutral field. It’s actually a good year for some new blood to win it all.

Call me crazy, but I think Ole Miss can win a title. NIL and the portal changed everything. Remember 15-20 years when... I think it was Matt Cassel sat on the USC bench for 3 years, started a few games as a senior after the starter went down, and then got drafted? Those days are over. Now somebody will swoop in, offer that talented backup NIL money, and boom, he's gone.
The formula for the second tier schools isn't hard to figure out: Identify the right players wasting away on somebody else's bench, spend your money intelligently, coach up your guys, and a title is in reach. The total scrubs can't afford this, but a school like Ole Miss? Definitely.

Ole Miss has a really good chance at a 5 or 6 seed too. Could be Georgia Tech or a G5 in Oxford first round. Let’s not pretend that the Rebs didn’t knock off Oklahoma in Norman and have a 4th quarter lead on Georgia in Athens.

There’s still an advantage to being a blue blood and having those kinds of resources but that gap has narrowed significantly. Just look at Cignetti at Indiana. The right coach can take just about anyone to the top in today’s game.

The blue bloods have more money and therefore more margin for error, but their ability to stack NFL talent 2-3 deep with no interference is gone. Lane can go to the 5 star 3rd stringer who put up disappointing stats as a fish and say "your coach is misusing you, come play for me. And BTW, here's a much better NIL package."
That pitch probably works 75%+ of the time.

We went and got Mizzou’s backup RB from last year and he’s #2 in the SEC in rushing. You’re right that the ability to hoard talent is gone. It’s why Saban bounced. But Kiffin also knows that he could get a slightly better roster at Florida than he can at Ole Miss (if the boosters open their wallets).

Wasn't easier for Dan Mullen to win at Florida, was it? He won the division once or twice, but that was only because he played in the East. You could argue his best team at State could hang with his best team at Florida.
Dan Mullen didn't recruit all that well, but Kiffin himself doesn't either really.
