Minnesota is no joke. They don't have a ton of talent but they get the most from it. They tend to not beat themselves.
You are going to have those games while Gus is the head coach. Next year he's got Chad Morris coming in to be the OC but that might not be an improvement. Folks have figured out how to stifle the Chadattack.
I have said it before and I will say it again. Gus Malzahn is the second coming of Houston Nutt. Most years he will win you 7-8 games. He's got a habit winning games people thought he wouldn't, followed by dropping games that to teams he shouldn't. Hell, they even have an odd symmetry in that Nutt always wanted to put a pasting on Auburn because he knew Tuberville was a leading candidate to replace him, while Malzahn wants to put a pasting on Arkansas to get back at us for not hiring him way back when.
Every four to five years the stars will align and Gus will take you to the SEC Championship. Which is a lot like what Nutt managed to do come to think of it.
They both also suck the meat missile when it comes to bowl games.
Either y'all learn to be happy with that, or you roll the dice and go with some one new. Gus is not going to change. He is who he is.

Nobody out melts Georgia fans...
But seriously, How's the lake looking and when do the stripe/hybrids start running?

Auburn beat Bama this year, but somehow, Bama feels like the real winner

If you have the big uglies up front on the defense line that can hold their blocks and clog the gaps to force everything to the sideline, along with the linebacker speed to seal the edge, Gus’ offense is dead and he usually doesn’t have a quarterback with the arm talent to keep linebackers honest and make them respect the short crossing routes. The corners can play man and a safety is free for run support also due to AU’s inability to hit passes between the numbers
You seal the line of scrimmage and Auburn is dead in the water. That’s easier said then done but because Gus runs so much quarterback rushes and read options, sealing the line has him at a loss for what to do.

Serious question...what are most Auburn fans' expectations?
The bowl record does look bad...2-5 if my count is correct. But..Gus basically has you where the floor is an 8 win season IMO. I would venture to guess that once/5 years Auburn could make a legit run for the national championship.
And last but not least he has beaten Bama 3 times. Who else has beaten Bama 3 times in the past few years? Without looking im going to guess nobody.
But back to...im just curious what more expectations wise the avg Auburn fan wants? 10 wins being the floor vs the current 8?

You have defended Malzahn all year. You are the head Gus Pole Smoker.

Damn straight. Minnesota physically whipped our arse worse than any other SEC team this year (with a bunch of 3 star talent no less). When we fire Gus I want Fleck and I was not a Fleck fan prior to our bowl game.

Look at Gus’s bowl record and then his records against UGA, Bama, and LSU. Gus sucks. The biggest issue is Gus can’t call an offense anymore.

Look at his record against Top 20 opponents overall.
13-24
And he is being paid 7 million per year for this!

Yeah AU sucked terribly in the bowl.
On a positive note, that 2019 schedule was freakin brutal. AU’s (hopeful) path to the playoffs was ridiculous. Then go compare their path to Clemson’s path (schedule). It will make you laugh.

Auburn created its own karma when it hired $cam Newton and Nick Fairley, and Aubies, to this day, hold them up as heroes. God don’t like Auburn.

"sucks" is completely subjective. I've already pointed out that he's probably beaten Bama/Saban more than anyone else.
Regardless...Im jusf honestly curious what the avg Auburn fan deems acceptable as a down year? This year you won 9 games and went 5-3 in conference. Im assuming this is a "sucky" year?
Would 10 regular season wins as bottom of the barrel/down year be considered acceptable?

No, I’m glad Allbarn hired him and $cam. Those thugs, along with Bobby Lowder, Milt McGreggor, and the rest of Allbarn’s criminal enterprise are the reasons that you’re where you are. And part of where you are is 2-8 vs your big brother, UGA.

Not really. Like I said, take a look at Gustav’s record against UGA, LSU, and Bama.
Another stat in this thread said he’s gone 13-24 against top 20 opponents. Dude is trash against decent opponents.
2-5 Bowl record with wins against Memphis and Purdue .

If it makes you feel any better... Auburn played LSU closer than anyone the entire season(actually had the lead in the 2nd half).
I think Steele deserves most of the credit for that. He showed some looks that it took us a while to figure out.
