I am a Texan through and through, please don't mistake me for a Longhorn fan though.

I've always liked Texas (the state) and have had a lot of friends from there over the years. I've even had respect for their football teams over the years (but not usually UT), though I'm glad as hell we left the SWC. Things were getting too crazy and the officiating was a joke. But I guess this latest situation of UT wanting to go to the Pac-10 and then backing out clearly shows that they are in no way wanting anything but an easy road to a the national championship game. I just think they're hurting themselves in the long run. At least in the SEC, at the end of regular season play, there is little doubt as to the real strength of any team that survives.

I don't read it that way. They took care of instate politics, got their TV deal, and will be in great shape to move on with or without the other TX schools. UT will spend $30m developing the network and it will have to be accepted by whatever conference they join....brilliant move on their part. It looks like the new conference is nothing more than a necessary detour and an open invite from every conference is there when they want to move on.
There's a lot of butthurt in the thread because, whether they'll admit it or not, envy is at play.

I'd like to have a city like Austin, their TV network, and recruiting base. Other than that, I could care less.

OK arrakis, you've got my attention. So before I say something due to my perceptions formed at an early age about the University of Texas athletic program,

I just don't see them willing, as yet, to exist as an "equal entity" and "on equal terms" with any other schools who have enabled them to exist as they have for a long time.

I think Ohio State is the largest. Minnesota might also be bigger as well.

Texas is the largest in regard to being "pain in the arse infidels", by a long shot.

I always love the Texas bashing threads.
As for people coming from Tennessee and Alabama, were the people that settled those two states originally from there? Don't think so. Where do you think Tennessee got its nickname from? The Volunteers that started it all were Crockett and Houston.
I get that a bunch of people from Texas are arrogant- just comes with the territory. Also, it comes from being at the top in the school system, economy, and overall quality of life. We get it- you hate Texas and you hate Texans.
I love LSU, but the crooked arse politics and the way things work in Louisiana (the state itself) bothered me. And due to the typically poor schools, crime rates, and mediocre economy, I chose to move back to Texas.
And for the Arky guy trying to make fun of Texas for being illiterate-
I have family up in Ar-Kansas, and I'm happy as frick my grandparents left.

Maybe some of you Texans can explain why your law enforcement can't protect the border down there.

I'll see what else I can find as well.
Google is your friend....

It's easy for them to agree to an equal share of TV money in a new conference because they'll bring the advantages they've gained (network and licensing) with them.

frick UT and Texas in general. UT-Austin is by far the ugliest campus I have ever stepped foot on.
Edit: I visited Austin last spring and after about an hour of hearing those d-bags talk about how awesome Texas and UT are I finally had to shut them up with this line, "So how many more national championships can ya'll lose in one year?" The look on their faces was priceless

Well played if you're a douche-bag.
Edited to add: I can personally think of three. Was there more?
