The rest of the nation simply does not take their football seriously. It is even worse than you think if you go past conference and consider broader geography.

The only BCS+CFP era champs from outside the Deep South + Sun Belt is Ohio State in 2002 and 2014. Southern Cal and Ohio State are the only champions who would be outside the modern conception of the boundaries for "The South" in the United States.

College football is really a sport for the Southeastern quarter of the contiguous United States. This is why expanding the playoff is silly. Everybody else got a better chance of winning if they only have to catch the best team in the South whilst falling apart due to injuries or whatever. Expansion means one of those mean-arse Southern teams is going to get your arse before the trophy podium.

Well said. And I know there are a lot of fans outside of the SEC that are mad at this but it shouldn't be the SEC's job to nerf themselves, the other programs need to elevate themselves. Oregon has tried their best swinging their Nike money around and came really close a couple of times

The truth is Clemson and Ohio State are the only teams in the rest of CFB that would consistently finish 9-3 or better in the SEC. OU, Michigan, and others would be regulars in the Music City Bowl
