While watching critical moments of Saturday's game in slow motion, at the 4:50 mark left in the 4th quarter I noticed that Bama's right guard led with a straight arm to the face and pushed JJA's head straight back, then he grabbed a handful of jersey as JJA started to get past him, and finally grabbed him by the face mask for that last bit of insurance to prevent his QB from getting an up close and personal view of the number 99. There are multiple angles that demonstrate what happened, although ESPN carefully coned down the last, best and only slow motion view so that Ajonye was just outside the frame and we could concentrate on Russell's fancy footwork. Anyway, after that very effective sequence of 3 fouls from his lineman, Russell did manage to get to the outside and complete a pass for 13 yards to get Bama into field goal position. Two plays later the fateful pass interference no-call occurred that apparently rendered everything else that happened in the game null and void.

It raises an interesting question since we have heard practically nothing about Bama no calls. If a single player commits two 15 yard penalties and a 10 yard penalty on the same play, is that considered offsetting penalties and thus the infractions don't count and the play continues? Maybe if the officials can't decide what to call in a case like that, they can just give the offending team a mulligan? I know there must be a logical reason that Herbie and Fowler didn't mention it or show us a special close up view of JJA getting mauled, in slow motion with commentary from the rules expert.

We should formally petition ESPN to bar Herbstreit and Fowler from calling our games the rest of the season.... I get they have to fill air but damn that was all time homering.

Herbstreit has a large inventory of homering. Coincidentally, that right guard was also the one who did a perfect clothesline tackle of Chris Cole earlier in the game (2 to 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter), resulting in a nice scramble gain for Russell if I recall correctly. Bama should've used that guy on the DL because that was one of their best LOS tackles of the day.

it was really surprising to me. Not necessarily kirk, he's alwasy been kind of a turd. But fowler has USUALLY been on the level and actually seems to get pretty fired up watching UGA games. I've grown to really like hearing him on the call and in fact in some of our biggest plays over the last 5 years I'd MUCH prefer fowler's calls to them than our own scott howard's.

So it was definitely eyebrow raising to see how one-sided they both were when I rewatched the game at home on sunday. Maybe it was a one time thing, who knows.

There were a ton of non calls on Bama and they never mentioned one. There was a PI and facemask on a TD catch never called. A couple of phantom holding calls on Georgia that brought back big gains and a blatant hold on Bamas first td. They want to complain about that one call but the truth is the score would have been possibly 28-10 and at least 28-17 at the end of the 4th, so they can all kick rocks with their bs.

I call for Romo and Flutey to take over for Alabama Pete and Gump Re-Pete.
