Payton wasnt a hole in Freeze's recruiting class and was accounted for. He is a bridge QB and Freeze purposely didn't pay up for a bandaid QB so that he could bring better weapons for the next QB.

Well, Gus had a knack for landing inflated ranked classes that did little for winning. Tank did well, but other than that, the rest portaled out quickly.

But then you throw shade because Auburn fired Gus after a 7th rated ranking the year before (mind you these rankings are not worth a hill of beans as you have said yourself.)

Here are the Cliff’s Notes for you:
Auburn has a history of recruiting at a top 10 level.
That doesn’t translate onto the field most years.
Hugh Freeze is a very good recruiter.
He is an average coach.
Auburn will go 8-4 this year. Maybe 7-5.

No. I said you need to recruit at a top 10 level. But not all top 10 classes guarantee they fit needs.
The cool thing about this is we will know who is right eventually.

Hugh is a decent coach and a far more balanced recruiter than Gus.
Hugh has been pounding harder on recruiting the lines of play while mixing in elite skill position players as good as any that has been in Auburn since Tuberville at the millenium. That in itself will pay dividends.
You should be more worried about Bama though. Let us worry about Auburn.

That's right. Hence Gus getting fired. When Gus was losing OL to Georgia like Broderick Jones and Trey Hill that's when it was game over for Gus. At least he scrounged up some OL from UMASS to beat Saban one last time. lol!
