I wouldn't say great but I grew early and was one of the bigger and faster players on the 7th and 8th grade teams but we were a small school so we only played a couple of game each year. By the time 9th grade came around, everyone kind of sprouted - except me. I became a blocking dummy.

Don't know about being great but I was consumed with playing football in the 7th and 8th grade. Played on 4 different teams each year - one county all star team, the middle school team and JV and Varsity high school teams. Did not play a lot on either of the latter but started on both sides of the line for the first two. Played games for the allstar team either Wednesdays or Saturday nights, Middle School games on Thursdays, Varsity HS on fridays and high school JV on Saturdays. Practiced mostly with the Varsity team....the others were all "under" the varsity teams "oversite". Played on the varsity HS team from 9-12th grades. Actually took a recruiting trip to Clemson my senior year....but their only interest in me was based on me being best friends with another defensive lineman they were actually interested in. Got some mild attention from small schools as an offensive lineman but had lost almost all interest in playing by then....and it was only mild interest at best. West Georgia made an offer but at the time they offered almost anyone. I wasn't anything special but I loved playing.
