Honestly this would be the worst thing to do against us. With that front seven Bama should run a 3-4/4-3 against us for every down that isn't an obvious passing down. If anyone can slow LF it's these guys. I think he has to trust his back four to cover our receivers and let his front 7 do what they do best. They won't stop him with only 2 LBs but with 3 or 4 they very well might.

Bama's D runs both and mixes it up...you might be right with someone like a Dillon Lee and Devall but with the 2 starting ILBers Reggie and Rueben they are completely capable.

The difference on this year's D from years past is the pass rush of the base DL and even their backups

Should be a fun game

As great as they are (and they really are) I don't think they're enough to stop LF and a healthy JD Moore, but we'll see on the field.

This is the only certainty about this game. Gonna be a classic.

Really solid analysis, but what happens if they can't control the Los and stop fournette, forcing a stacked box and a dangerous Harris on play action the whole game?

I don't think the guy that posted bama playing 5 and 6 DBs VS LSU has seen much bama VS LSU football.

As it's been stated in this thread, Saban will not sell out to stop the run. When you do that, you give up 60 yard TD passes. I believe Alabama will run nickel D to keep Fournette contained while not surrendering the deep ball. The game plan will be the same as it is for most teams Alabama plays. Keep everything in front of them and affect the QB with different blitz packages and combo coverage.

Lucy splain something please.

If bama runs mostly a nickle defense how do they do it without using less DL or LBs?

The way I understand this nickle stuff you either take out a DL or LB and put in an extra DB.

Yes. That extra DB Alabama plays is named Minkah Fitzpatrick.

An example of Alabama not stacking the box from last season:

Most running plays against Alabama look something like this. Even Ohio State didn't manage a consistent running game instead breaking two huge runs for about half of their yardage on the ground. Fournette definitely has the long speed for that and Alabama has shown some vulnerability on the edges so it's certainly a possibility that he could break one.

Every defender on the Alabama front seven, though, is more than capable of winning one on one matchups so excluding the aforementioned scenario Alabama should be able to contain Fournette without committing eight to the box.
