Any news on Wilson v Mitchell? How they each looked in spring practice?

UU from Hogville says Tyler is the clear #1, but that's one person's opinion. I haven't been to any practices.

What he says:

"No way that Mitchell catches Tyler for the 1 QB. This is Wilson's team. Mitchell is solid 2 though. He doesn't go through his progressions very well. Made some throw into coverage when other receivers were open. Wilson goes through his progressions very well. Always seemed to hit the open man in stride. Mitchell does throw the deep ball very well. Extremely well in fact. Walker is not even in the conversation. I think Allen comes in and is the 3qb. McGee worked a lot today with Walker and Mitchell on their footwork and mechanics. Really trying to get both of them to shorten their stride."

Is there really a battle? The way that Wilson played against Auburn last year should be plenty enough to give him the nod with all of the WRs yall have coming back.

Not a Flame, and not trying to sound racist, but has Arkanas ever had a starting black QB?

Ugly Uncle, a poster on hogville who attends most practices, said Wilson is a lot more precise, but Mitchell throws the better deep ball. Right now, it looks like this is Wilson's team, the way he leads the offense.

He also said Walker is definitely #3 right now, and looks maybe a little hesitant or not 100%, probably b/c he's coming off that leg injury.

There's only been a few practices, so there's not much of a body of work to look at. I think the spring game should tell us who the starter will be.

IMO-there was no battle, but I dont claim to be one of the know it all fans. I'm just curious how they each looked.

I have no clue if we have had a black qb or not.

If that report is accurate, that's positive news on Tyler.

I was referring to having a STARTING black QB. I know you have one on the team now in Mitchell, and have had others on the team in the past. I just can't recall any starting as far back as I can remember to the late 90's.

Robert Johnson was the most recent--I believe he started a few games in his career here. He was eventually moved to WR, however. He was one of the QBs tried after the Matt Jones era, but Casey Dick and Mitch Mustain ended up being the starters.

edit: I screwed up his name

Arkansas is set for the next 5 years at QB.

Tyler will be the starter for 2 years, Mitchell for 1, Allen for 2, and with Jacoby Walker here for the next 4 years who will be a great backup or even push for the job one day.

Robert Johnson around '04. Before that, Tavaris Jackson, Quin Grovey, some others I'm sure.

Whoops, I meant Robert Johnson. Not sure why I was thinking Robert Mitchell... probably because we had Mitch Mustain at the same time, and now we have Brandon Mitchell.

These two are the only answer, Grovey played in the SWC. I think he asked since joining the SEC.
