How many of those aforementioned schools have their own separate university system?
Here's a list of other Land Grant Schools:
University of Florida
University of Georgia
University of Missouri
Louisiana State University
University of Arkansas
University of Tennessee
University of Kentucky
Mississippi State University
Add A&M and that makes 9 of the 14 SEC members who are land grant schools.

To an outside observer, it seems that TAMU and UT were proposed at the same time, when Texas was independent. Interruptions of statehood and the Civil War messed up plans to have just one University of Texas System.
Two distinct systems evolved over time. It seems apparent that the TAMU system came first and was never part of the UT system.

Congress (of the Republic of Texas) also set aside 50 square leagues of land, approximately 221,420 acres, to endow two universities.

The (Texas) Agricultural and Mechanical College formally opened on Oct. 4, 1876.

The Agricultural and Mechanical College was to be a branch of the main university.
But since the university had not yet been established,

Kentucker, thank you for the logical response.
I shall reply in kind.
First, the University of Texas was chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1839.
That 200,000 acres was closer to central Texas. That is completely separate than the oil land, shown below, which was set aside in 1876 by the Texas Constitution which makes A&M a branch of The University of Texas.
That is not correct to my knowledge. Those lands were never allocated to a "Texas A&M." The Republic (and state) of Texas made several other land grants to Texas universities:
Remember that A&M came about from the sale of federal land in Colorado. The state of Texas didn't have much money, hence UT's later start.

Let us refer back, now, to the 1876 Texas Constitution, which set aside the oil land:

Furthermore, that land (to this day) is titled to "The University of Texas."

Texas received title to 180,000 acres of land in Colorado on February 16, 1871. The land was sold for seventy-five cents an acre and produced $156,000 that was then invested in 7 percent gold frontier defense bonds of Texas, which, with the discount, had a face value of $174,000. The state legislature approved a bill providing for the organization of the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College on April 17, 1871, and appropriated $75,000 for the construction of academic buildings and suitable accommodations.

Sec. 10. ESTABLISHMENT OF UNIVERSITY; AGRICULTURAL AND MECHANICAL DEPARTMENT. The legislature shall as soon as practicable establish, organize and provide for the maintenance, support and direction of a University of the first class, to be located by a vote of the people of this State, and styled, "The University of Texas," for the promotion of literature, and the arts and sciences, including an Agricultural, and Mechanical department.
Sec. 11. PERMANENT UNIVERSITY FUND; INVESTMENT; ALTERNATE SECTIONS OF RAILROAD GRANT. In order to enable the Legislature to perform the duties set forth in the foregoing Section, it is hereby declared all lands and other property heretofore set apart and appropriated for the establishment and maintenance of the University of Texas, together with all the proceeds of sales of the same, heretofore made or hereafter to be made, and all grants, donations and appropriations that may hereafter be made by the State of Texas, or from any other source, except donations limited to specific purposes, shall constitute and become a Permanent University Fund.

You're talking about the republic, but your map shows modern day Texas. Instantly invalidates all of your points made. Good day sir.
Posted on 1/20/16 at 4:09 pm to AggieDub14
Guess you missed that part about those Republic of Texas lands being in Central Texas, huh, Mr. Millennial? Dumbass.

It looks like this. Stupid Whorn.
Posted on 1/20/16 at 4:11 pm to texashorn
And you need to learn the definition of the word Central. Even in the old days, that is still West Texas.

You're an off-the-rails dumbass. You don't even grasp what is being spoken.
Must be one of those 70 percent (that's A&M's admission rate) who are taking remedial reading classes at Blinn.

You can keep saying stuff like that, but all of my documentation is thorough.
You're in denial and can't run to an Old Rivalries board moderator to have the truth deleted, so pucker up, bud.

Oh I understand fine. You're saying because land was set aside under a name, that you're correct. What really happened is A&M started classes 7 years sooner than your school. You find it a valuble use of your time to make sure we all know that the land was set aside for The University of Texas before A&M opened. That's fine. A&M still came first as a university. That doesn't make us the "University of Texas". It just means we are gonna poke fun at UT for not being first, and the whorns will cry about it just like you have been all day. For some reason being first is important to you, and we know that it gets under your skin. The little tweleve don't entertain you enough? Seems like you're always on this board trying to stir up shite with Aggs.

I never disputed the fact that A&M opened first.
But it is not "The University of Texas" in any sense of the term.
I don't post on here much, it's just that my posts are very powerful. What can I say.
