I said I think there's a 25% of it actually happening. Why would I take a permaban bet on that?

LOL this is flat out not true
No. It's flat out fact. Lombardi is not particularly regarded as an excellent executive. He was an idiot when it came to the cap. He and Saban were together in Cleveland, but that doesn't mean Saban likes/respects him. If Lombardi was so well thought of then be would already have an executive job in the NFL
Also, just for fun, Lombardi himself said in a radio interview in Cleveland that he doesn't think nick wants to go to the NFL and that he's happy doing what he's doing down at Bama.

Yeah and he also said “He’s got great drive and he’s never satisfied. Nick is always about the next challenge.” responding directly to a question about him and the NFL
You are truly delusional if you think there's no chance at all of this happening.

Too many connections to the NFL inside the Alabama football complex for "information" to not exist outside of Cleveland on this "move". Our very own Phil Savage, well connected in Cleveland as well, is our color analyst and the Senior Bowl director for Christ's sake.

A chance? Certainly. I jut wouldn't put the odds very high, nor would I bet much on it. If I had to bet $1000 either way, I'd bet on him still being with Bama in 2013 and continuing what has been his longest tenure at any place

There is definitely no "move" planned at this point. It's an idea. Saban has laid out the conditions for which he would even consider returning to the NFL. Now we have to see if the Browns create those conditions for him by hiring Lombardi. Even if those conditions are met, it's probably only a 1 in 3 shot that he takes it. It's really that simple.

Can you get my my BCS title game ticket from last year signed by Nick Saban? Since you're clearly with him on a daily basis.

It doesn't take a genius to connect the dots based on what we know.

Give it up! As much as some of you would love for CNS to leave Alabama its not time for that. I really believe this will be his last coaching gig unless some serious BS started internally. And that isn't likely any time soon.
Let it go.
Let it go.

And someone without an agenda can connect them to see where this shite started, and why it got out of hand.

The only college job I have ever feared he might leave Bama for (Notre Dame) is very happy with its current coach.
The only NFL jobs I could see him being interested in would be clubs already loaded with talent, not a decade long rebuilding job like the Browns where no coach could put them in Super Bowl contention within the next 3 years. The Cowboys might worry me somewhat, but the Browns don't even phase me.

and citing two unnamed NFL sources, Greg Bedard writes that “Saban has let it be known that if he returns to the NFL… it would likely be with Lombardi playing Pioli to his Belichick.”
He's made it known that he would consider returning to the NFL. I'm sure you'll try to attack this article's sources but that's just going to make you sound like one of the poli boarders who swore the polls were wrong.
So we know he would consider it under very specific circumstances. There's nothing to talk about really until those circumstances are met. At that point he'll have to decide if it's worth it to him to correct his one career blemish. Personally I think it's unlikely that he will but it can't be discounted either. Somewhere around 33% is probably about right.
If the Browns hire Lombardi, make a push for him and he says no, then I think he has pretty much closed that book forever.

Again, this "Lombardi" thing is of very little significance to this issue. Saban cares more about control and the ability to win big. If desire to prove NFL doubters wrong is what would motivate him to return to the NFL, why in the hell would he go to a club like the Browns where he would be doomed to failure and prove his critics to be correct? I would be more concerned about the Cowboys and a 10 million/yr offer.

Then why are multiple NFL sources saying that it is?

Why are the Browns doomed to fail? They have a new owner who wants to win which is really all you need in the NFL. This isn't like college where some teams are naturally superior to others.

Jerry Jones will never relinquish control of that team.

Has anyone been fired at Cleveland yet?
Has Mike Lombardi taken a job somewhere that I don't know about?

This was posted by the owner of 247 Sports today:
As we said last week, even though the Browns are likely to target Saban for the position, we believe that there are too many obstacles to overcome to lure him away. Saban isn't a young pup anymore, he loves what he's built/building at Alabama, he knows he has a chance to build his legacy into one of the all-time greats (regardless of era) in the college arena, and most importantly, he and Terry did not like the social/community aspects of professional football. Stated clearly, the NFL and the Sabans are just not a good match and they know it.
With all that said ... Yes, I believe there would be some interest at the appropriate time -- at the very least out of respect and professional courtesy. Yes, the Browns are absolutely heavily interested in Saban and yes, those close to the Sabans do not believe he is going anywhere anytime soon.
One last rumor to put to rest ... Many times things get taking out of context or the media hangs on every word ... Coach Saban is absolutely enjoying the process at Alabama. I have spoken to numerous insiders close to him and they are always mentioning how much more laid back Coach Saban is these days (compared to pre-Alabama championships) and how much he loves the day to day of his job. Coach Saban is playing for history at Alabama and he knows it, and it is motivating him and everyone around him.

I've seen you say that a few times the last couple of days. What are the "multiple NFL sources?" So far I've only seen one article talking about the possibility that maybe things will line up in such a way that Saban might think about going back to the NFL. Every other article since then has been a discussion on the reaction to that original article. So, where are the multiple sources claiming he has shown interest?

I love these threads for two reasons.
They prove beyond all doubt that the rest of the SEC (if not the entire nation) knows that Saban and Alabama is indeed a dynasty.
They show that other fans fear the combination so much they'll grasp at anything in the hope that the nightmare will end soon.
