Vols mascots

Davy Crockett
Davy Crockett, a native of East Tennessee, was a soldier and congressman from Greene County. Truly the embodiment of the Volunteer Spirit, Crockett led a 12-man group known as the "Tennessee Mounted Volunteers" during the Battle of the Alamo where he gave his life volunteering for freedom. His legacy lives on as "Davy" still leads volunteers today, proudly flying the Tri-Star flag as he runs Tennessee's teams onto the field and the famous Power-T flag throughout each game.

Not bad on the history of ole crockett. His last home place is about 7 miles from where I live.
But I bet when he was sitting behind that wooden fence at the alamo, and saw 3500+ mexican bayonets coming at him....he was wishing he would have kept his arse in TN

and your mascot
quote:
In 1953, the University of Tennessee Pep Club held a contest to select a coonhound, a breed common in Tennessee, to serve as the school's live mascot. Announcements of the contest in local newspapers read, "This can't be an ordinary hound. He must be a 'Houn' Dog' in the best sense of the word."[1]
The late Rev. W. C. "Bill" Brooks entered his prize-winning bluetick coonhound, "Brooks' Blue Smokey", in the school's contest. At halftime of the Mississippi State game that season, several dogs were lined up on the old cheerleaders' ramp at Shields–Watkins Field for voting. Each dog was introduced over the loudspeaker, and the student body cheered for their favorite. "Blue Smokey" was the last hound introduced. When his name was called, he barked. The students cheered and Smokey threw his head back and howled again. This kept going until the stadium was in an uproar, and the University had found its mascot. "Blue Smokey" would compile a 10-10-1 record during his two seasons as Vols mascot. Tennessee's first mascot met a sudden and tragic end in 1955, as he was fatally struck by a car after escaping from his home.

I doubt it, he died a proud Texan.

I must say as to what I have seen of Texas, it is the garden spot of the world. The best land & best prospects for health I ever saw is here, and I do believe it is a fortune to any man to come here.

The ‘Volunteers’ name derives from the 1,500 troops from Tennessee that fought under General Andrew Jackson against the British at the Battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812.
Surprised the woke mob hasn’t come for UT and glued themselves to the Tennessee rock or something while demanding a name change.

All we know for sure is that out of the entire SEC footprint, only Tennessee and Texas has showed a repeated historical failure to man up and defend themselves when it mattered most.

I mean it’s like Bama names me your mascot, and I like you mfers more than David, (he hated being called Davy btw) liked Tennessee. You mfers basically got him murdered by Mexicans. if anything he should be a Texas mascot

Bama has a buffer in the fight so does TN, but we fought you just laugh at both, sounds about right!

I'm just going to sip my GD #12, chuckle and warm myself by the fire like we did April 4th 1865 in Tuscaloosa again.
