I wasnt there for Miss State crap. I was there in the 70's and 80's and as I have admitted on here helped an SEC school pay players. My father was very involved, we had coaches stay at my house many many times on recruitings trip, and my dad was on the phone with them all hours on the night. (Pre internet) They all know all the other "bag men" too. It was very common.
I said from day one John Bond blew the thing up. I know him too. He is too staight to be involved in recruiting. Clueless. When dumbass Cecil Newton brought it up in front of him, and then he turned it in to AD, they could no longer honor the deal. I told you from day one Big Bill was a money man for state. Know him as well. He would have paid him if instructed to do so.
Those that dont know history are bound to repeat it. I have said many time this is the 80's again.
If you think you got Cam for free, so be it. I can get you a good deal on some Worldcom stock or beach property in Biloxi too. All you hopes now depend on that genius Cecil Newton. I am sure he will keep his mouth shut not get into any trouble, tell a perfect cover story. (LOL)
In the end this was all blown up by one honest man John Bond, and one idiot.

Teh NCAA is not going to say "YOu broke one rule but thats ok...opps you broke two rules...now CAm is ineligible."
The kicker would be if someone lies about actually receiving money. Lying to the NCAA has been a back breaker for schools lately.

You really think that the NCAA wouldn't have made a different determination had Cecil admitted to receiving money versus soliciting money?
And again, I don't believe this story.

You seriously don't see the huge difference here do you?

Bankshot, State fans should never give Bond any shite over this. He didn't know and if this breaks bad for Moo U he will feel bad enough. He was there to talk to your future QB, etc. He wasnt paid a nickle to play for you guys as far as I know. He doesnt know about all this. You know what he has gone though these last few years. No body expected Idiot Cecil to blurt out crap like that. It is just a bad break. And another in a series for him. I am not a MSU fan and never will be, but he is a good guy that doesnt deserve to be caught up in any of this.
I hope you guys, his MSU family realize that and stand by him. He has done a lot for State as a player and a person. This is not his fault.

I do not know of the NCAA you speak of.

But they wouldn't be. If I recall correctly, they even stated that their ruling was based upon all the facts they knew at the time. Different facts come to light = different results.
Look back at text book gate at Alabama. The NCAA cleared the Bama players to play at first, but later came back (after their investigation) and stated that they were actually ineligible and should not have played.

Crow, I worked on that many years ago when they were trying to get a minor league baseball team here. Barry Lyons, former catcher for Biloxi high and the Yankees lead the charge. They were looking at next to convention center for a while then off 1-10, then Katrina hit and that was it. Casinos were not as supportive as we had hoped.

I don't blame John Bond. I've been a State fan since the 80's and I've never heard his name mentioned in any recruiting issues before this one.

So you are saying if the NCAA would have been told/have known that Cecil took $48K from MSU that would not have effected their thought/decision process on Cam??
Really?
I mean Really, Really?

Get me a few acres for a few thousand and I will open a Auburn Recruit Polishing Center!!! I would need to get Uncle Mitles Slot Machine programmer on the Beau Rivage payroll..but hey anything's possible.

Well, if Cecil lied to keep his son eligible, I think the NCAA will not be happy.

Crow, the like Uncle Miltie too much on the coast. Not sure how that would work out, may I suggest a nice building over in Moss Point area that you can turn into a gym religous/recruiting center. It is kinda hidden right of the river, deep water access, and was used by some of Milties old buddies many years ago so he should be familiar with it. Plus any cash or old drugs, bodies you find there are yours to keep(LOL)

The NCAA ruling was "Based on the information they had available at that time"...Did James Brooks teach you to read?

It's been proven that Cecil lied to keep his son eligible. They didn't seem too upset before.

As it's been relayed to me, Mississippi State actually paid Cecil Newton $48k in December 2009. It was the first of two payments to be made -- the second one coming after Cam signed with MSU.
The money came from Bill Bell through J.C. Patton's office to Melvin Smith to Ken Fairley to Cecil Newton. Somehow (I'm still not sure how he fits in) Fairley is caught up in the Victoryland mess over in Alabama and that's how the FBI connected dots back to MSU. My understanding is the FBI has physical transaction records between Bill Bell and J.C. Patton and text records between Patton and Melvin Smith telling him to come get the money and get it to the Newtons.
Smith was pulled off the road to give MSU a bit of cover. And that's when the MSU recruiting class started to fall apart. Smith is responsible for getting money to Alvin Kidd, a volunteer assistant coach at Philadelphia High School. Kidd distributes the money to various players -- both on the MSU team -- and potential recruits in central MS - basically all the schools east of I-55, north of I-20 and south of US-82.
When Smith was pulled off the road, the money dried up -- both for current players on the MSU team and potential recruits in east and central MS.

This is hogwash. An Ole Miss fan trying to pull a W&L conspiracy post on Mississippi State.
1.In the first place, no school in their right mind that is cheating would pass 48K through four sets of hands to the intended target.
2. You have to be joking. Using a high school coach to pay players enrolled at MSU and high school recruits throughout the state. Ridiculous.
