Yes and yes. But I don't think Chiz should have made any statement prior to the show airing and I don't think his post show statement should have included the statement about HBO not trying to speak to him.

Fair enough. I also don't think he should have gone on or given a statement but I don't like the "political" trick of saying he wasn't contacted is all. "technically" he can say that but does he think we're that dumb?

You do realize there isn't only 1 number for auburn that goes to Chizik. They called the university. Not him.

he's a puppet coach...why would they want to talk to him?

The key question is when did HBO contact Auburn, was it the day of the show, the day before

It is my bias that HBO probably did try to reach Auburn for comment but

1) how they did and
2) whether it was in a fair way that provided adequate time and opportunity to respond are different questions

It is not uncommon for members of the media to put a comment in a story along the lines of "we tried to reach person X for comment but they did not respond"

That can be representative of what happened or it can be highly misleading... if you do something like leave one voice mail or contact them with very little time before when the story runs. That is very different from trying to reach a person for a week before the story runs

All of this is really not the main point tho. Instead of HBO engaging in a "yes we did" or Chizik responding with a "no we didn't"... the smarter thing for HBO to do is offer Chizik the ability to respond. If I were Chizik and had nothing to hide I would agree... provided I was also allowed to film the interview and release segments from it

This would protect him from misrepresentation on the part of the reporters. Bottom line tho it probably does Chiz little good to do an interview because it prolongs the new cycle on the accusations... and esp when Auburn still has people like Pat Dye heavily involved in their program they look dirty even if they are not

to some extent

although dealing with the media is part of a head coach's job... there is nothing that says the media used has to be HBO
