According to what Ole Miss fans have been told, their side was the prepared side. The investigative arm and Leo's side... not so much. I know for 100% certainty that most Bama and MSU fans will call that spin and dismiss it, but to each his own.

Thing is... State fans are hearing the opposite. Supposedly Leo's part was very smooth and backed up by a video of some sort.

LL didn't have the video, but another player did apparently. But the video backed up everything LL was saying. At least that's what I was told.

If they throw out the Leo Lewis stuff I think it can stay at 1 year, because Leo was pretty much the whole 2nd NOA.

I find it cute that Ole Miss people think there's even a minute chance that the Leo Lewis stuff gets thrown out.

The same people who have been wrong all along, including the "not-a-fans," are pumping sunshine about the COI. But think about this...Ole Miss was called to Kentucky to answer the largest list of level one violations ever brought against an institution, with their star witness freshly terminated for moral turpitude. They have no friends in the national media, nor in the SEC office, nor at the NCAA. Their media have been wrong at every turn. What in the hell good could possibly come out of that meeting?

Indeed, I am a Bama fan and indeed, I would call that spin. You're telling me that an organization spent 3+ years investigating Ole Miss was 'unprepared'. Not only were they "unprepared", but they were more "unprepared" than an organization that couldn't figure out Hugh was regularly calling hookers on his work phone, administrators were directly introducing recruits and players to boosters, among the host of other violations that went unreported. (By the way throughout this whole thing, I keep hearing Ole Miss fans talk about all the violations they "self-reported" but I don't recall them self reporting a single thing that was in either NOA, but I digress).

So unprepared that the COI straight upheld the ones OM didn't argue and dropped the ones they did, considering they met for 2 days and were done with it.

Ole Miss fans were told the exact opposite in terms of the Leo Lewis, Kobe Jones, etc and how it pertains to LOIC and Failure to Monitor charges. Ole Miss showed up to fight in that regard. They already to admitted to the stuff during Nutt's tenure and some of the mickey mouse charges on Day 1.

Seems a bit excessive considering the Investigators "star witness" produced no tangible evidence in pay-for-play. You may be right tho - who knows?

I'm sure OM sunshine pumpers like that Sprirt Chuck guy are feeding this to their public, but here's the problem with it.

COI hearings are not trials. Each side gives a brief opening statement then each side gives a presentation in support of their position on each allegation. If the committee members have any questions for either side, they ask them at this point. Each side then gives a closing statement and that's it, time to hit the hotel bar.

There's no chance to 'show up to fight' other than angry gifs in your powerpoint presentation. No new evidence is presented and no witnesses are questioned by adversarial parties. Since they only spent a day on the contested charges, it doesn't seem like the COI asked many questions.

COI Hearing Process

If anyone says "it went poorly for Ole Miss", they're doing the same thing as the pro-OM people and pure out guessing or making things up because the fact is that the hay has been in the barn for a long time. The bulk of the case outcome rests on how the COI views the Enforcement staff's reports and evidence versus the OM responses and supporting evidence. The hearing was simply the way to wrap it all up and send the case to a conclusion.

Not to you, but to thread...

Forget Leo.
This is still your 3rd program on probation.
Academic fraud admitted and proven.
University did not dispute the $10k payment.
UM entire defense against LOIC and FTM were built on the integrity of a coach they just fired for lack of integrity (or moral terptitude).

LOIC and FTM guaranteed, due to these few facts. Therefore, at least a 2 yr bowl ban.

I would bet almost anything on LOIC and 2+ BB.

Ban bets, sig bets, monetary bets anyone?

You don't see how anyone NOT associated with or a fan of Ole Miss might view that as spin? Especially given that the info from your media (fed to them by your admin) has consistently been incomplete at best, and flat out spin at worst?

It could be true - it could be false - it could be spin. Hell we don't even know if the COI gives a damn about the last 2 days

Remove Lewis from the equation for arguments sake. OM still had double digit Level One violations WITHOUT Lewis. You guys keep getting hung up on him (while conveniently forgetting the texts from Barney, the Atty Booster, and the Atty Booster's assistant). You act like he's the entire case. He's a fractional percentage of the 20+ violations in football.

The most damning part of the amended NOA is Lewis. Ole Miss self imposed based on the 1st NOA obviously.

quote:

feel for you guys. I honestly do. We lived it in the late 90's early 2000's. You don't see what's happening bc you don't want to see it, so you believe anything that is told to you that gives you hope. Bama fans have been there. We can relate. That said, you were found guilty of violations WHILE being investigated. You've proven to have LOIC and a Failure to Monitor. Additionally, the NCAA said that you "failed to reach the standard of exemplary cooperation". It is what it is at this point.

We already know your opinion. Ole Miss could be hammered. The could get leniency. It's just funny how MSU and Alabama fans have convinced themselves that the hammer is coming and it's some sort of done deal. Nobody knows a damn thing.

quote:

The penalties I predicted seem about right given the matrix they use for Level 1s even if you take out the allegations by the "star witness", which I doubt happens, but I get why OM fans cling to that hope. My prediction of 24 lost, 2 yrs bowl ban, 5 yrs probation, and show causes might be light actually.

The investigators made a case directly so the matrix offers huge penalties. The problem is, there is no hard evidence to convince the COI that all of the allegations are valid. The COI may look at the entirety of the allegations and find Ole Miss to be guilty of a system problem. The COI may also view the allegations and find some of them to be a reach (Leo, Rebel Rags, etc).

The investigators are not the COI. Things can change.
