99% of the media subconsciously (without awareness) has the opinion that Chambliss should’ve received the medical redshirt from the sore throat due to his uplifting, defeating all odds story where he went from unknown DII to becoming a Cinderella college football breakout star who made the CFP semi’s after having to start out as a backup. They haven’t reviewed the medical evidence. They just support him because of his uplifting story leading them to believe he deserves the medical redshirt, without being aware they’ve muddled the two together.

They are not self aware enough or smart enough to realize that their subconscious and bias is guiding them to equate ‘feel good Cinderella story’ must mean that his tonsillitis was serious and had merits of a medical redshirt. Or they are biased in other ways from analysts like Stephen A., Ryan Clark, and Cam Newton who would support his medical redshirt regardless of what evidence there is or isn’t. It only helps that he is at a program that has had relatively little success in the last 50 years, further strengthening people’s support (a subliminal bias because they are not a ‘threat’ yet. Just like Indiana, feel good story, but not a sternly set threat. Picture how people would react if he played for 2015 Nick Saban’s Alabama.)

His uplifting, defeating the odds story and his medical redshirt case are not connected in any way. They are simply uncorrelated.

You’d be surprised at just how much your subconscious drives your everyday actions and thoughts.

Who do you believe more?

NCAA: rejected Chambliss 3 times citing lack of medical evidence besides a single note from a doctor that said “He’s doing well”. Stands to lose or gain nothing from Chambliss getting or not getting a medical redshirt.

Ole Miss: Cites 91 pages of medical evidence whereas NCAA said there was just 1 doctors note narrating “he’s doing well.” Stands to gain a chance at a very successful season by retaining the star QB after reaching the playoffs for the first time in BCS or CFP history, after losing the head coach who was responsible for 4 of their 6, 10 win seasons in the last 50 years. On the flip side, if they lose him, they will have quite a significant uphill battle.

If you’re having to dictate who is right where one party has no incentive, and the other party has their livelihood riding on the line. It’s safe to side with the former over the latter in any situation.
