Kopps definitely deserves it. Am I way too lazy to vote though? Absolutely

Kevin Kopps once struck out Chuck Norris with one pitch.

I would guess PROBABLY not, since the highest number of wins is 20 and the highest number of saves is 23

However, I can’t say for sure because that’s an incredibly difficult stat to look up

What does that have to do with hitting both?

You were asking if he’s the first one to get double digits in both right?

Since the records individually for both are double the threshold for double digits, I would say it’s statistically unlikely that double digits has never been reached in both categories in the same season.

Like I said though I can’t rule it out entirely because looking up both saves and wins at the same time is really difficult unless I have an actual player name that would be someone you think might have double digits in both

31 appearances. 79 and 2/3 innings. 6 runs. Insane.

Fair enough. Definitely a tough search.

Eckersley had 7 wins and 51 saves for Oakland

That’s also a fair point. For the most part closers get saves not wins because they come in when their team is winning already. Kopps is a bit different in that regard because he is hardly a traditional closer.

Also, because it’s impossible for a pitcher to get a save and a win in the same game, the pitcher would have to have at least 20 appearances on the year (not too difficult) and at least 10 of those have to start with a lead and 10 have to start tied or from behind (more difficult) Fortunately, because Kopps is a reliever and not a starter, he has a higher likelihood of his appearances resulting in win/loss decisions, and this is amplified by the fact that he’s not a traditional closer, which would take away from his number of W/L decisions.

So thinking about it that way, Kopps is truly in the perfect position to put up that kind of split in those two categories, and maybe it’s less likely than I originally thought someone has double digits in both
