Jaketigger -
I pulled for Arkansas the entire game. Even when they were down 3 scores. Even though the "lucky or being in the right place at the right time" first OSU score "resulted" when two Hogs knocked each other off the ball in the end zone. Same with two Razorbacks knocking each other off an interception (can one of the potential interceptors not call for the catch [like baseball outfielders do] as Pete Fiutak of CFN emphatically questioned?).
Yes, Ohio State had its fair share of what-ifs. Ohio State - congratulations on a great Sugar Bowl win against Arkansas. You finally got the monkey off your back by beating one of the SEC's 2010 best teams. Sincerely, as a LSU fan I really respect your Top 10 college program. Y'all come back now, Ya' heah....
Yet, Tressel, (t?)OSU fans, et. al., with 1 minute left in the game you allowed Arkansas to block your punt. While the Hogs failed to scoop and score to win because the scooper "lost balance and fell down", Arkansas had the game for "the taking". Did it happen? No!! Why not?
Dropped passes? No.. Play calling? No.. I followed the game moment by moment. I played this game (football) in my youth. Football (like baseball and other great sports) is moment to moment. I was OK with the game up to this make or break moment with about 1 minute left to play in the game............... Let it happen!
The Hogs lost because (IMO) Ryan Mallett is not ready for prime time. Not ready for the big stage. This comes from a Tiger who witnessed Mallett beat LSU in our final game. I had nothing but the utmost confidence in the final outcome of this game with less than a minute to play - i.e. Mallett would lead Arkansas to a touchdown. With a 32 - 31 score Arkansas would then have tried a 2 point conversion. Fail - a one point lead. Succeed - a 3 point lead that would have taken a field goal to tie even with about 50 seconds left in the game.....
Instead, what we all witnessed was a forced Mallett pass into double coverage. Yes, absolutely double coverage. Nobody mentions this. Check it out. Yes, double coverage. Of course it was intercepted to end the game. This is what "tore my heart out". This was an unnecessary gamble type of throw by Mallett. He had several downs left to make a first down (albeit with no time outs left). He still then had time to lead his team into the end zone to go ahead 32 - 31 (and probably win the game).
When Mallett threw into double coverage for the interception (instead of rolling out beyond the tackle box and throwing it out of bounds past the down marker), I was so upset I then put the game on Pause for about 3 minutes. I then fast forwarded (without looking) at the rest of the play to the game final score..... Of course I knew what the final result would be!!!
That was my "rip my heart out" moment. Arkansas, I was indeed pulling for you until the end (less than 50 sec. left in game).
Hope Razorback fans pull for us Tigers Friday. You guys did beat us fair and square, SEC style, in our last game.... Go SEC....
A&M - I've seen several of your games this year. Wow. I am impressed... you beat Oklahoma (beatdown Conn.), Nebraska, Texas, Texas Tech (beat Northwestern). OK, we are in for a game. Bring it. We will bring it. I hope... BTW, love your Fire School. Been there, done that. Love Bryan & College Station. Long time ago, learned 2-step at Lakeview Club (think this was the name of the cowboy kicker club at the time). Let's have a great game at the Cotton Bowl..... From Houston -
