Will be traveling to the game this weekend. Any recommendations on places to go or specific bars before the game? TIA

Yes, your mom is hosting a bunch of us at the Motel 6. In the parking lot.

here are some of my favorities and/or gville staples:
american: the top, public and general
mexican food: cilantro tacos, la pasadita, la tienda
pizza: piesanos, italian gator (i.e. pizza by the slice at midtown), satchels
asian: dragonfly, yummy house
steakhouse: embers, marks prime
bbq: mojo q, 4 rivers
latin: los pollos, cintron
breakfast: maple street biscuit, flying biscuit
breweries: swamphead, cypress and grove, first magnitude
sports bars: the social
bars: the top, madrinas, arcade bar (near the corner of university and main st)
my fav is the top for relaxed and embers for fancy. just fyi, most bars downtown and midtown are college bars. also our bbq in gville is average but mojo q's whiskey selection is ridiculous.

If you are out at the bars near Main Steet late and need some food, Flaco's does good Cuban and is open until 2:30.
Or so I have been told.

The Top has some of the worst service in Gainesville. Food is meh.
Also, Spurriers is pretty cool even if you don't like Florida sports. You would want to look at both floors (bottom is more formal dining, top floor is first-come first-serve and more of a relaxed bar scene).
Celebration Pointe in general is a cool atmosphere for families too.

I also heard the swamp (bar) reopened, but it is East of campus now instead of North, so it will be a 20 minute walk to the swamp (stadium) instead of 5 min.
LINK
At midtown (which is closest to the stadium) the Social, the Grog house and the Salty Dog.

The Golden Corral will be packed 3 hours before and 3 hours after the game because it's the most popular restaurant in town. So get to Golden Corral early.

Nice hadn’t heard that. The food and service sucked at the original but loved getting a patio table in the front yard and people watching.
