I have a cousin who just bought Gruden a drink!
That wasn't hard at all. Not saying it is not true, but saying that it is easy to say something like this. Apoliges for being a downer, but after DGB I just can't put much emotion in this yet.

No, where did I say that? I'm just trying to get the facts. I know that he won the Super Bowl, but it was just said that unsuccessful coaches don't make the leap back down. His win loss record at TB is right at about .500. I just don't really know if that constitutes a successful coach.

Well to be fair when the Bucs traded for Gruden they gave up a lot. After they won the SB he didn't have as much to work with as a normal NFL coach would have. I think they traded something like 2 first rounders and 8 million for him?

On ESPN U's highlights of out spring game they said the Arkansas Raiderbacks

I know there are all sorts of factors. I guess I'm just trying to get a grasp of the blind faith. I admittedly don't have the whole story on him, but it just seems like he's getting the Messiah treatment.

No it was just said that successful coaches don't make the leap back down.
And even though he was at or about .500 at TB he did win a superbowl and did a great job at Oakland.
I would consider him being a successful NFL coach.

Yes, so are you saying Gruden failed as a NFL coach just cause he was fired?
Exactly, that's why he's the most sought after coach available.
He did win a Super Bowl as a NFL head coach as well.
Arkansas would be crazy to hire him.

the raiderbacks? Seriously though, why is ESPN buzzing us all day today for the Spring game? ESPN has hated us and always has. If we hired one of their own then it would make them love us.

Jon Gruden was obviously a success in the NFL. My caveat is that he hasn't coached in college football since 1991. And his total experience is three years at the collegiate level. How many successful NFL coaches have made the transition to college football? Very few. About the same as successful college coaches making it in the NFL. They are two different breeds of the same game.

They weren't buzzing you. They were giving snipets of all the spring games today. Arkansas is just prey because of what transpired. It's not different than their shots at Alabama during the Mike Price scandal, or after we fired Mike Shula and Rich Rod left us at the alter.

BUT
How many of those coaches were successful at two different NFL teams? How many of those coaches won a superbowl?
Yes it is different but the problem with the transition is most NFL coaches hold a more managerial position whereas college coaches ave to have more of a hands on in player development.
Gruden is considered a very good player developer. He is charismatic and is a house hold name so he should have no problem with recruiting.
I always thought he was better suited as a college coach rather than a NFL coach.

There hasn't been a coach win a Super Bowl and later coach in college, that I'm aware of. It's usually the other way around.

He still hasn't done it since 1991. And he was coaching at Pittsburgh. I'm not sure how successful he would be recruiting in the SEC with Arkansas' talent limitations.

Agreed. I'm not a fan at all of a potential Gruden hire. It may help recruiting at first because of his name but I just see his lack of recent/any college experience as being a huge problem down the road.

At Foghorn's. Couldn't you at least go to something a little more up-scale?
