All of these schools that are about to go searching for new HC's should take heed of what has transpired in the past couple of years.

If hot shot coach X says he can bring you to the promise land, hire him and pay him 7 M a year, but no buy out. If he produces he would earned what he was paid. But, if he pull a Fat Bert or Butter tooth, he gets his one or two years of over payment, but the school is not on the hook for anything after that.

Everyone is happy as long as the success is there.

I'm pretty sure that Saban makes more than most teams entire coaching staff combined. But he has earned it, there are other coaches that are similarly paid but have not produced and I'm sure there is buyers remorse.

There is a concern with coaches moving around, and fanbases going nuclear though. Needs to be some kind of balance, but a school can't be held hostage if not doing well.

I think the conferences, and the ncaa need to figure it out. Cant leave ADs on their own here anymore. It's messing with the game way to much.

We are living in a different age where communication is to open, so the ncaa needs to figure something out. They won't though. They are more concerned with making sure employees that choke on cocks in their after hours aren't offended by legal State laws.

Contracts' firing buyouts should be adjusted based on W/L %.

Huge buyouts can actually give the HC incentive to ngaf, or even want to be fired.

Become independently wealthy and play golf everyday. Where do I sign?

2 more layers that would make this perfect are:

If a HC leaves, all players have the option to move on to any school without having to sit out a year. I for one think if an athlete wants to move schools there shouldn't be a one year penalty.

If a HC is taking a job at a different school on his own accord (promotion), he is on the hook for providing his entire previous staff's salary for the next year even if he doesn't take them with him to the next school.

Very insightful. It seems like schools are offering the same types of packages as other schools they are competing with for the same level of coaches. It's almost as if the coaches have agents that understand market value and aren't going to let a school box a coach in with only exit clauses that are in favor of the school.

Great job pointing out the mistakes schools are making. You ought to start a consulting business for coaching hires and contracts so schools can avoid these mistakes.
