I think I agree with this statement, I mean who out of Auburns current commits is a better pure football player than Fowler.

Well, for starters Jake Holland may be the best pure football player in the state this year.... Hell, our current three LB commits (Holland, Curry, White) are better "pure football players" than Fowler.
As far as in-state RBs go, I'll take DJ Howard over Fowler... faster, better athlete, more versatile. Fowler is a FB... if he's seeing significant carries as a RB, I'd be shocked.

LOL. DeMarcus Milliner, Solomon Patton, Nick Perry, Cory Grant, Jarrick Williams, LaDarius Owens, and C.J. Mosely beg to differ.

I love how Auburn fans overrate Jake Holland. Hell, his own dad said his brother is the better athlete of the 2...

go watch his film. If you were to make a video on how to play LB and to tackle, it would be that video.

Holland is not even the best LB in the state. C.J. Mosley and LaDarius Owens are far better.

Richardson will never make in to school because of academics.
Posted on 8/21/09 at 10:20 pm to CapstoneGrad06
Owens wasn't even playing LB last year... he was a DE.
My advice is watch Jake Holland's film... he is the best MLB in the state and if there's a better one in the southeast, I'd love to see him.

He's nothing unique, there are 100s that are the same as him....
BTW You might want to look up a LB named Jeff Luc, he's the best in the nation, let alone the Southeast...

Since he's playing MLB this year, you could add Craig Sanders to that list...

No offense, but you're a moron if you think Craig Sanders is a better MLB than Holland.
Sanders' 1A high school hasn't ask him to drop into coverage... all of a sudden because Andrew Bone gives him 4 stars he's going to be a great jack LB in the SEC... give me a break.
Sanders will be playing one of the inside DE position's in the 3-4... he's not SEC LB material.

To take a page out of an earlier poster's book, he's a better "pure football player" than Holland.
He's got a higher upside than Holland does...

I disagree with the "pure football player" comment... and to say he'll be a better MLB this year is just ridiculous. There's no way Sanders can drop into coverage at the 6A level.... heck, Ariton hasn't asked him to do it at the 1A level with consistency.
Let me ask you... If sanders is going to be such a great LB at Bama, why hasn't he been playing it at a lower AL 1A high school up until now?
Sanders may very well have more upside... time will tell.

Because he hasn't needed to. The only reason he's playing it now is out of need for the team...

Oh... I see.
I didn't realize Ariton has had so many SEC caliber linebackers over the last couple years. Now that they've moved on, it's certainly time to get Sanders into his natural position.
This is just my opinion, so TIFWIW (which isn't much)... sanders will be a great college defensive end. He's 6-4 240ish now... with his frame he'll probably play around 270 at the next level... with that being said, he'll be out of position at LB. I just don't see him being able to drop into a zone and cover RBs/TEs with consistency. I could be wrong... we'll see in a couple years.

Rainbow City isn't known for pushing out Division 1 prospects year in and year out, but Brodie Croyle was a high rated QB that had a decent career...
He would be fine at 260 playing Jack LB, he doesn't have to consistently drop back in coverage, his primary objective is to rush the passer.
If he were to play DE in a 3-4, he'd have to be a whole lot bigger than 270 for Saban's liking. Saban likes his DEs at 280-310, because all they really do is stop the run as 2 extra DTs...

It's not the fact that Sanders is playing 1A football... a lot of talented players come out of small town high schools...the thing that is surprising (to me at least) is the fact that he's not playing the position in high school that he's being recruited to play in college.
If I'm the coaches at Ariton and I've got a legit SEC linebacker on my roster, by God I'm going to play him at LB... I'll put my best athlete in the middle of my defense and let him dominate. For the most part, he's been a defensive end.
I understand his role once he gets to UA will be to rush the passer, but if he's no good in pass coverage, he'll greatly limit his PT... to the point of being a situational player.
