Former Mizzou and Vandy coach Woody Widenhofer dies
Good guy but could not make a go of it as head coach for Mizzou, and then Vandy, after making the Steelers a strong defensive team. Mizzou grad who, like Kim Anderson and Barry Odom, should never have been hired.

He was a simple man. May he rest in peace.

quote:

According to Robe Pate of the radio show All Eyes On Auburn on 97.3 FM, former Vanderbilt head football coach Woody Widenhofer is living the easy life on the Florida panhandle these days, collecting money from drivers at the Mid-Bay Bridge toll booth near Destin.

Widenhofer ‘s last college football gig was in 2007 at New Mexico State as the defensive coordinator, but he found the most success as a linebackers coach and coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970’s. He helped lead the Steel Curtain defense to four Super Bowl victories before leaving in ’84 to take over as head coach of the Oklahoma Outlaws of the USFL. He spent five seasons in Nashville as defensive coordinator and head coach of the Commodores before resigning in 2001 after going 15-37.

Had some ridiculous defenses at Vandy. Held King Peyton and arguably our best offense ever to 12 points.

Looked shopped until I read the article. Could’ve given him money the dozens of times I used that bridge in the last 15 years.
