It has been mentioned numerous times in this thread it comes down to research.
Nothing wrong with non research universities but research universities bring in huge amounts of money. Much bigger than even college football.
Arizona, Purdue and Michigan St are all great universities for your information

That is so far from the actually truth it is hilarious.
Is it? Because Ohio State (#2), Michigan (#3), Florida (#5), UCLA (#6), North Carolina (#7), and Virginia (#9) are all public universities and AAU members ranked higher than Texas (#9) in the 2015-2016 Director's Cup standings.
Oregon (#10), Cal-Berkeley (#11), A&M (#12), Washington (#14), and UGA (#15) aren't too far behind, either.

But specifically in the areas of Medical and Engineering research.
Purdue is an engineering school, Arizona is THE school for NASA research.
Michigan State is the one of those three that is most similar to UGA in that the majority of their research is a result of agriculture and energy-based studies.

This was a down year for UT especially in the big sports
All of the Big 4 are on the incline with Shaka Smart's basketball team leading the way
I do not know if any university had done so but UT may be the first ever to win a National Championship in FB, BB, WBB and Baseball
Only public university I can say UT looks up to is UCLA because they have more combined National Championships the rest are either equal or behind UT

Chemistry is another one
Look at Cal Berekley with the Lawerence Berekley National Laboratory
I do not want to get too much into this since this is a SEC message board but UT is strengthing their connections with the Pac 12 schools regarding research
UT did not see this in the SEC for whatever reason.
Not to turn up our noses at your Conference but we want to compete against the best in terms of academics and athletics
Texas sees California as the final hurdle before becoming the state in should be not anything in the South

Don't tease yourself. Texas will always be part of the South.

Don't kid yourself. Austin is the least southern city in America
Posted on 7/9/16 at 3:37 pm to PNW
Nah Miami is definitely ethnic but still very much southern.

Texas is its own region
It has historical ties to the South
It also has historical ties to the West as well
Why the name Southwest came about
Southwest just really means Texas

Meh. texas will always be a part of Texas. I certainly don't claim them as Southern, despite their geography. Culturally, they're unique in the same way that New Orleans is unique. The difference is that NO hasn't ever really shied away from its role as a part of the South. Texas, on the other hand, has oftentimes throughout history gone out of its way to establish itself as its own place (and in a few instances, as its own country).

I guess what I'm saying is that the people of Austin and the people of UT Austin not only look upon the South with arrogant disdain, but you already are in a conference with the Texas flagship school that Is Southern

You should understand the consequences of your actions by leaving UT
I guess now Tech will reap the benefit not A&M of joining us
Tech was always a better football program in the Big 12 anyway

The "South" as we refer to it extends down to the parallel that runs from Daytona Beach on the East coast through Ocala and onto Cedar Key on the Gulf. Everything north of that parallel is a part of the South (this includes Jacksonville, Gainesville, Ft. Walton, Tallahassee, etc.) while everything south (Orlando, Tampa, Miami, Naples, etc) is a strange mix of Latino, pseudo-Caribbean Yankeedom (also known as Margaritaville).

I guess that's true, but my point still stands. UT and Austin are so un-Texan, un-Southern, that they shouldn't even be considered a part of this state.

They sure get your A&M panties twisted
Actually they won 10 of the 16 against A&M
If it was not for Leach getting ran out of Lubbock it would have been a lot worse those last few years
