your swag/homey comment may not have been outright racism. But I, unlike you and many others, have a brain that is capable of using common sense.

You've been in every thread crying about it.
Hell your comment in the "What you won't hear Kentucky fans say this morning" was...

I really wish there was a way I could see what would happen if scenarios were twerked a bit. I wonder how outraged everyone would be if this was said about a black wisconsin player. I'm gonna guess there would be more outrage at the fact that he insulted him and not the actual word he said. But since it happened to a white guy it's given the old dudes on here a perfect reason to play the GOTCHA card

I'm just glad Cal and UK are handling it appropriately instead of letting folks like that dictate the situation.

Don't waste your time feeling sorry for us. I mean, we get a good laugh out of this.

Well then I guess blacks are the most racist towards fellow blacks.
You're getting off topic.
The OP stated this:
quote:
"frick that ****" isn't a racial slur
When in fact it is a racial slur, regardless of how it was intended or even taken.
Also, just because someone uses a racial slur doesn't make them a racist.
Also, just because someone is a racist doesn't mean it's the end of the world.
quote:
There was no racist intent behind this.
That's just it. There kind of is in a mindless sort of background radiation kind of way. Trust me on this, there are a LOT of black people who find the term offensive in ANY context, and get tired of hearing kids using it so mindlessly. You think it's harmless, but over time it has a deleterious effect.

A word can not be racist. It's intent is what determines that.
You're simply wrong.
just to put things in perspective one more tim since you so confidently told me I was wrong.

And you have to put yourself in the context of an 18-20 year old young black man who has been using it among friends/etc without any negative connotation. I work with kids not much younger everyday at an inner-city school who use n**** like it's addressing you by your name or saying "man". It's just different for a different generation.
It reminds me of the Childish Gambino line of "I sound weird like n**** with a hard R". They know the difference between one and the other and know the connotation.

quote:how can you say it's a racist slur when the receiver of the insult is WHITE? How does that make any logical sense?
When in fact it is a racial slur, regardless of how it was intended or even taken.
Is me calling a male poster on here a bitch make me sexist? If you say yes, I'll give you kudos for being consistent

So you agree that this wasn't a racial slur then, right?
It is a racial slur, I don't see how anyone can say it's not.
But just because it is doesn't mean that the one being spoken to is going to take offense - hell, they just beat Kentucky, frick whatever that Kentucky n***** said, they're advancing. Even if the speaker uses it with racist intent doesn't mean that the one being spoken to must take offense.
You just go ahead and walk around Central City and tell people "Man, frick that n*****" and see if it's a racist slur or not.
...of course they may just laugh at you for simply being out and out insane.

quote:
You're cut and dry example is way off base. A word in itself can not be racist. How it was meant to be interpreted and yes, how it is accepted by the person who it was said to is what determines that. In both cases, this checks out as non-racist.
you're trying too hard.
"frick that n*****" is a racist slur.
that doesn't mean that the speaker is a racist, it doesn't mean that the listener must take offense.
quote:
Should he get in trouble for saying it on live TV? Yes
No, he shouldn't get in trouble for using that specific word, he should get in trouble for losing control of his emotions and showing extremely poor sportsmanship.

I'm white. Why would I do such a thing? I have common sense.

racial slur
noun
a derogatory or disrespectful nickname for a racial group, used without restraint
it's only disrespectful if the receiver takes it in that manner. Also, Harrison clearly did not mean it in a derogatory manner.

only if meant in a derogatory manner. According to it's very definition.

Do you realize that this exact phrase is used amongst blacks towards fellow blacks every single day? Do you honestly believe there is racist motivation behind that phrase when a black guy says it about another black guy?

but black people hate it when black people say it GC.

I've never met a black person who is offended by this word when said by other black folk.
And you're still a child.
This is what you ignorant kids don't seem to be getting. You're calling out a group of people who have vastly more experience in the world - and now you're trying to use your ignorance as an argument: "I've never met a black person who is..." just shows a lack of experience. Maybe by the time you're my age, you will have met more black people and realized they there are ALL types of black people out there, some are insulted by n***** and some aren't.
And quit assuming that when I was a kid playing basketball in New Orleans n****** weren't calling each other n****** all the time and it usually wasn't a big deal.
