Another footnote to the series between Fla and Miamauh. The New Jawsey College @ Coral Gables was in dire staights in the early 1970s and the president of the school wanted to close down the football program...period because of costs and terrible attendance (gee, nothing has chamged)..only a few diehards pleaded with him to continue the program. They hired Schellenberger after he left Louisville as memeory goes....and Jim Kelly saved them.

I enjoyed the series back in the mid 1960s, George Mira Jr was a great QB from Key West and he was about 5'10" but elusive...he and Spurrier met up twice with a split decision...ironically, both Mira (nicknamed the Matador) and Spurrier ended up at San Francisco and warmed the bench for John Brodie...Mira was cut after a few yrs and Spurrier lasted about 9 yrs and when Brodie went down early one season...Spurrier took over and did well. Then Spurrier was hired as a first year QB at Tampa Bay Bucs and was battered repeatedly by a woeful OL. The Bucs started their first year with emphasis on defense. The owner of the Bucs was a Bama guy and a real cheap toad.

Just a small correction...UF didn't field a team for 1943...they did field teams for 1940-'42, '44 and '45.

Appreciate it RRD!

No one is trying to say that UF and UM were top notch programs

Don't worry, everyone besides Alabama fans understood what you meant. Their insecurity blinds them.
