- Florida and UConn open up a home-and-home series with Sunday’s showdown in Storrs. The Huskies will travel down to Gainesville in the 2020-21 season.

- It marks the 2nd home-and-home between the teams over the past decade, the last of which the Huskies swept, with an additional Huskies victory in the Final Four sandwiched between the on-campus meetings.

- UF’s last trip to Storrs ended with a heartbreaking loss, as Shabazz Napier tracked down an offensive rebound of his own miss and sunk a buzzer-beater to win the game, 65-64. The Gators followed that loss with 30 straight wins, entering the NCAA Tournament with the #1 ranking before falling to the Huskies again in the Final Four.

- The Gators look to extend their current streak of three straight NCAA Tournament bids, which is already the third-longest streak in Florida history.

- UF has once again lined up one of the most challenging schedules in the nation and will play no fewer than 12 of its 31 regular season games against 2019 NCAA Tournament teams.

- The Gators’ rotation includes 5 freshmen and 3 sophomores, along with grad transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. and a pair of junior post reserves. The 212 combined Florida games by this roster entering the season are the fewest since 2007-08.

- The trio of returning starters put up elite numbers during their freshman season, as Andrew Nembhard’s 194 assists ranked fourth-most in UF history, Noah Locke hit a Florida freshman record 81 3-pointers and Keyontae Johnson’s 229 rebounds were fifth-most by a UF freshman

- The Gators bring in the seventh-ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247sports. During the early signing period, Florida signed two McDonald’s All-Americans in Scottie Lewis and Tre Mann, along with top-50 big man Omar Payne. In the spring signing period, Florida added point guard Ques Glover and 6-foot-11 post Jason Jitoboh. Florida also added the services of shooting guard Alex Klatsky.

- UF returns post players Dontay Bassett and Gorjok Gak, who figure to provide depth behind Blackshear. Bassett averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in a reserve role last season. Gak missed the 2018-19 campaign while recovering from knee surgery, but averaged 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds in 2017-18.

- Florida also added a pair of sit-out transfers in forward Anthony Duruji from Louisiana Tech and point guard Tyree Appleby from Cleveland State. Duruji averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds last season, while Appleby scored 17.2 points per game at CSU.

- The Gators enjoy continuity on their staff as coaches Al Pinkins, Jordan Mincy and Darris Nichols all return, along with director of basketball operations Jonathan Blake and director of scouting Bryce Douglas.

- Athletic trainer Duke Werner, who was named Florida’s Associate AD for Sports Health this summer, returns for his 16th season with the men’s basketball team and 26th at Florida, while director of strength and conditioning Preston Greene enters his ninth season with the Gators.

- UConn is in its 2nd season under Dan Hurley, posting a 16-17 mark in his 1st season at the helm last year.

- The Huskies return 4 of their top 5 scorers from last season, including a pair of 2018-19 double figure scorers in Christian Vital (14.2 ppg) and Alterique Gilbert (12.6) and leading rebounder Josh Carlton (6.2 rpg).

- Vital (26) and Gilbert (22) had a big offensive game in UConn’s loss to Saint Joseph’s.

- UConn and Florida have played at different ends of the tempo spectrum so far this season. The Huskies rate 39th in KenPom adjusted tempo, while the Gators are rated among the 10 slowest in that category.

Looks like Nembhard, Lewis, Mann, Johnson, and Blackshear will be the starting 5 again.

I like that. Locke should be coming off the bench, especially with his shot not going down. Doesn't contribute anything if 3s arent going.

Nembhard

Had a very good outing against towson.

9 assists to 3 turnovers in 38 minutes.

Shooting behind the arc has to get better for florida

Offense will look so much better if we hit wide open 3s. Can not explain how a team with so many good shooters is shooting this badly.

Draining open shots will cause the defense to have to guard the 3 point line and open up some of the cuts and interior drives that White has tried to get them to do.

I don't think thats it. Most of our 3s last year were from well behind the old 3 point line and our guys were capable of hitting them.

I like we are speeding up more and moving without the ball more. I think FSU could have finally made White question his philosophy.
