didn't for Alabama as they won the NC after an embarrassing loss in the SB to Utah. Seemed to create a tailspin for the Gators in 2013. We'll see with UGA.

Relative to non NY6 bowls it still matters but since the advent of the CFP only those 2 games actually matter. Under the BCS there was at least a precedent for a team not in the title game still winning the AP title after a good BCS bowl performance. That doesn’t exist anymore
