Chris Collins never stepped out of bounds.

Let's also not forget that our "Groza winning" kicker missed two of his three missed field goals of the year in that game.

You're ranked 46th in the country, 9th in the SEC, and haven't had a single in-state commitment? Why would this be exciting?

38th in the country and 8th in the SEC in the updated rankings.
That's not counting the number 5 player in the state who is a basketball signee for us. Still 8 of the top 10 in the State of Mississippi are on the board for us.
That's something to be excited about.

Really? Well nevermind then, I guess we should just give up on Johnson.

But in all honesty, I don't expect us to take all eight or even six of those guys.
But since most have it narrowed down to Ole Miss and State I expect no less than two, and possibly four or five depending on how our bowl game and officials go.

You're crazy if you think you don't need to recruit MS.

You have to recruit your own state

we will be fine, probably a mid 20's class I guess. I really don't get into recruiting like a lot of people, but in the end it always works out. As for the recruiting " in state" players, I could care less. If Nutt would rather get a kid from out of state, go for it. It's not my decision but I am behind whatever "tactic" he uses

Im not an expert, but I read a lot on Rivals, Scout, and the ESPN recruiting team sites. I am a member of one, and have 2 buddies who let me use their passwords so I can read the boards on other sites.

As for Ole Miss I see them only getting Bennett, Martin, Parker, and Maybe Thompson.

Wells and King are strong MSU leans and this is coming from Ole Miss sites as well. According to Neal McCready on Rivals Ole Miss board, Taurice King isnt even on the Ole Miss Radar and he only sees Ole Miss having a 40% chance of getting Wells who almost committed to State last week before he decided to take his trips in january.
Robert Johnson should be locked up as soon as tonight with Coach Mullen having an in home visit with Johnson tonight.

Which will not make you competitive in the SEC or beyond.

And there is not a single blue-chip high school commitment on the list yet and there may not be any by February.

Sorry, man, but Houston Nutt is David Cutcliffe all over again when it comes to recruiting.....and the end-result is likely to be no better than it was with Cutcliffe.

Even with the low bar that you and most other Ole Miss fans sadly set, you should listen to what the fans of other SEC teams are saying in this thread....and in general

You won't win in the SEC with half the blue-chip talent in Mississippi (if we even get that this year, which I highly doubt) and leftovers from everywhere else......

Has never happened and never will......

I figured you would blame our fans for making us middle of the pack. Is it not our AD's problem to correct this? Or maybe our past or current coaches? I really feel like someone should watch you 24-7 so that you don't jump off of a building because everytime you post it is negative.

The Rankings count your top 20 commitments.
Almost every SEC school, actually almost every school has more commitments than we do.

By the end of the season I expect Mid 20's overall and 7th or 8th in the SEC.

That is good enough to be competitive in the SEC with Houston Nutt as our coach. Houston Nutt went to 8 bowl games at Arkansas with one top 20 class. He's doing a better job of recruiting at Ole Miss than he did at Arkansas. Logic says he'll be more successful.

He's doing a better job of recruiting Orgeron did, in my opinion.

Orgeron had 1 really good recruiting class here. The other two were buried in the 30's.

He also didn't recruit offensive line or secondary worth a damn. Our two best DB's are converted WR's by Nutt.

Please.

Orgeron signed bona fide blue-chippers from California, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee.....as well as corralling most of the better Mississippi talent until he lost credibility with his endless losing on the field.....

Nut got shut out of Mississippi his first two tries and could very well get shut out again this year. He got a few late blue-chippers last year, but not nearly enough.

You brought up his record at Arkansas, which was nearly identical to Cutcliffe's at Ole Miss, so if you are happy with endless mediocrity, 4- and 5- loss seasons, and minor bowls, then he is your man. If you want anything better than Cutcliffe-style mediocrity, he is not......

I personally don't give a damn about going back to those days, but if being an also-ran floats your boat and excites you, I guess having 8th-in-the-SEC recruiting classes and New Year's Eve parties in Shreveport is enough

Thisa!

Orgeron's last class is crap.
Which is one of the reasons that we're gonna suck next year.

Bona fide blue chippers that never made it to campus.
A bunch of Diamonds in the rough (Mike Wallace 2*, Greg Hardy 3*, D. McCluster 3*, Shay Hodge 3*, Kendrick Lewis 3*, Johnny Brown 3*, Ashlee Palmer 3*, Lawon Scott 2*) have carried this team.
Orgeron is a good recruiter, but he rarely got the blue chip players on campus.

Bull.

Jevan Snead
Kentrell Lockett
Jonathan Cornell
Jerrell Powe
Alan Walker
Mike Oher (OK, that one was a gimme)
Cordera Eason
Ted Laurent

....and quite a few others.

Just because some did not pan out does not alter the fact that he won recruiting battles that no coach has ever won at Ole Miss against very difficult competition.

His last class WAS crap....but that was because after 3 years of losing on the field, he had lost credibility as a coach......and first classes don't count, when a coach was not even in place until January.

I will tell you this--until Ole Miss has a coach that can recruit like he did until the string ran out, it will NOT be anything other than mediocre.

Simple as that.....
