hold on now... we could see a couch burning, someone ringing a cowbell, someone in a corndog suit, and folks wearing a red bowtie with pastel blue shorts paying athletic looking HS students all in the same location. Could be very interesting.

Do you realize how many Michigan, Bama, Auburn, FSU, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Stanford, Oregon, Texas, etc. GRADS live in New York? They didn't move there for some liberal agenda, they moved their because New York is the financial heart of America.
People in NYC don't give 2 shits about college football.

you dont think its possible that cfb fans in new york would come to time square for this?
I'm saying that Times Square is blocks and blocks away from where most CFB fans actually watch their games and it'd barely be worth it to go. They may stop by, but they won't stay like they would if there were an actual tailgate going on.

I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't tell everyone what my plans for that weekend are, sir

And I think a lot of cfb fans in new york would like to go check it out and experience the atmosphere with the other fanbases that exist in the city

New Yorkers overwhelmingly DGAF about college football.

And that small proportion that do is still a larger number than anywhere else

So being able to set up tents near the broadcast has no bearing on the crowd that sticks around? Instead, lets just put all the GameDay productions in the middle of a large busy street with only extremely expensive alcohol around.

It's like you guys forget that people from all over the country move to NYC...

My point is asking what is that atmosphere, really? It's Times Square, not a traditional College Football atmosphere that most of these fans are accustomed to. You might be right, but its not what most of these fans will think when they think gameday.

And going to a tiny school that no one has ever heard of is? This is a unique place that provides the potential to highlight how so many different groups of people from all around the country converge on one city. There is a whole lot of potential for the show that week, even if people don't show up for the actual show for whatever reason

Very true, but to do it in one of the more annoying places in the city, and then having to walk/get in a cab/get on a train to get to where I actually want to watch my game doesn't sound appealing to me. And I realize that's my own bias, but nothing about this screams game day as a college football fan, only "Oh hey, this other TV broadcast is doing something out of Times Square. How original." To me, it'd be a hassle, and not something I'd want to deal with. Others might, but I'm not sure it'd be as successful as if it were on a campus.

Well, you have a point, but I really enjoyed when they went to North Dakota State a few years back and showcased what that school was about. Ratings would be no different because people watch GameDay for GameDay, not the specific school it goes to. I fully admit by bias against Times Square (and the entire city of New York, place is awful) but I do believe having a single broadcast at a small school wouldn't hurt the show, and doing this adds nothing to it.

They are not even about sports anymore.
Not sure why they are required to air from a campus.
Doing it from Times Square seems like a pretty darn cool idea if they can pull it off

Look I've lived here for a while. The UGA bar probably draws more than 500 people every Saturday. You can't get in if you don't come early for big games. Feels just like Athens.
I'm sure it's similar for other schools.
I never talk college football to people who didn't go to big schools cause nobody else cares.
I'd shoot my self in the dick before I'd go to see College Gameday at 7am in Times Square on my morning off
