Semantics - only difference in awarding / declaring is presented a physical item here.

No, it's the difference between 1958 and 1908. There was no title awarded to LSU following the 1908 season, therefore there is no championship that year for LSU.

Once all the conferences agreed to the BCS arrangement the AP trophy became as relevant as the Reddit trophy

Except that every August people want to know where their team ranks in the AP pre-season poll, and proceed to obsess over poll rankings all season. Then at the end of the season, they want o use poll rankings for playoff seeding.

People so want the pre-season poll to stop, but they can't help themselves for being obsessed over it.

People so want a playoff to determine the champion, yet they are so obsessed with the opinion polls, they insist on having them play a part of the playoff system.

It's completely retarded.

this happens with the NCAA men's basketball TOURNAMENT winner with regularity - versus the final polls -

Tournament winner is not always #1 in Final Poll -

College Football has been reduced to a Made-For-TV upset special soap opera just like College Basketball - an 8 seed won the FB Tournament last week in Atlanta -
